I've just built 2 systems - essentially identical. The problem is that both of them are unstable, and I can't work out why.

I haven't tried swapping components yet, but will do so soon - but the characterisitics of the instability are strange.

Specs:

Abit NF7 rev1.2
1x Twinmos 512 MB PC2700 CL2.5
AMD Athlon XP 2500+
Enermax 433W PSU

Prime95 will error out after a variable period of time, on both of them - sometimes 1 minute, sometimes 36 hours. This is at stock speed, BIOS set to fail-safe defaults, etc.

I've tried Memtest86 on one, and it just throws up totally random errors, although only infrequently. Roughly one error every 10-15 minutes that the test runs - only test 6 fails (haven't run the extended tests). Selecting a tiny area of memory and testing that reveals the same things, roughly every 15 mins or so it will pick up an error.

I've tried down clocking the CPU, downclocking the FSB, downclocking the RAM, extending RAM timings to the max. Nothing makes any difference.

I will try swapping the RAM and later the CPUs, but I feel that there must be an incompatability between the RAM and the motherboards.

Any ideas?
