hi there guys, kinda new to hardware..

was just wondering, is there a significant performance difference between a nf4 or nf4u chipset motherboard ? understand from various websites theres a difference between the HyperTransport speeds.. is there anything else ? Intend to get a AMD64 3200+ Winchester along with it as well.

Hope u guys can help me out. Thanks :)

Welcome to the forums.

Are you planning on getting a PCIe video card?
I would suggest getting a socket 754 nf3 board if your sticking with AGP. It outperforms socket 939 for price/performance.
If your going 939 for overclocking and upgradability, you might as well get a SLI board. You can run a single card on it no problem. This way you get get SLI later when it's more mature and has more value.

Have you looked here for the info you seek?

SLI = hype.

I'd get a solid NF4U mobo, like the K8N Neo4; You could also go with NF4 as a cost-effective S939/PCI-e platform.

Yeah i intend to get a PCIe gfx card. Just sold of my athlonxp combo so i intend to upgrade. Is SLI really here to stay ? IMHO would rather 1 really good gfx than getting 2 mediocre ones to compete. Will consider a SLI solution as its more "future-proof" but can some1 enlighten me on the performance differences between nf4 & nf4u ?

the MSI neo4 is really PRICEY where im at.. So thats out for sure. The only NF4(non-ultra) mobo that is available where im @ is the Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9, wondering how it holds up against the other NF4U boards as i can prolly save a few bucks if the difference isn't significant. Thanks for your opinions though ! :D

I have a Chaintech VNF4 Ultra and it is virtually identical to the DFI NF4 in performance and my Winchester walled at the same O/C maximum on both boards.

For $130 it has alot of value. S939, NF4U, PCI-E, pretty much everything minus firewire and an x4 slot.

Thats good to hear. :)

no1 has answered my question yet though
is there any performance difference between a NF4 based mobo as compared to a NF4U based one ? Been searching around for chipset comparison reviews but cant seem to find any.. Hopefully anandtech would be the first though ;)

Proposed Rig:
AMD64 3200+
"Insert Mobo Here"
Nv 6600GT / At X700Pro (PCI-E)
