NF4 Ultra + 4 sticks of ram

I wasn't sure whether this should be here or in memory. I have 4 x 512mb of DDR400, but when running memtest, it should 164Mhz(DDR328) 2.5-3-3-7 / DDR-1 (128 bits)

Has there always been a compatibility issue with running 4 sticks and having FSB drop?

thanks

are all four sticks identical make?
Is the bios up to date?

Is the bios set to automatic control of FSB?
Does it go up if you take out some sticks?

yea, it has the newest bios and all 4 sticks are exactly the same. before when i had 2 sticks it would run in ddr400 without a problem.

The bios is set automatically. When i set it manually for everything to run @ 400Mhz, it doesn't want to boot.

I remember on some AMD rigs, the BIOS dropped the RAM speed from DDR400 to DDR333 when you had all four slots filled. It looks like that is the case here. I wouldn't worry about it much.

You can try relaxing the timming of your RAM to see if you can reach 400Mhz.

A lot has to do with the memory controller in the A64. Starting with the Venice core it was a little easier to run 4 sticks stable at 400MHZ.

Even if you don't have one of the later cores I think it's worth the try.
