Ok..I have spent the last 4-5 days trying to decide what to get...

DFI-DR-SLI near the top....I really like palcement of 24pin/4pin connectors
but is this a stable and reliable board..I want to overclock but no extremes..I run an A64 3200winny@2550 at 255mhz

Abit AN8 SLI...looks very nice but the 4pin 12v is high on the mobo and my lead may not make it from my OCZ 520 Powerstream in the P180 case

Epox 9NPA +SLI..looks good except the stupid placement of the atx connector....

MSI Neo 4 Plat SLI...I hear almost nothing..I love my Neo2 Plat

I am getting SLI for who knows why..seems like a good idea and some mobo offer few more features and I hear there is physic card that may (LOL) be coming out that could work in tandem with a pci-e card in sli slot???

I see some mobos offer SATA options for use with future sata optical drives..supposedly DFI DR-SLI does( but no SATA II support?? with this sata connector)

I am not expecting to use 300 fsb...

New setup..I need to build a new system for my wife...I refuse to spen $330 on San Diego when X2 3800 will be $350
A643200 venice XP90
OCZ 1gb ram
X800XL pci-e
520 powerstream
Seagate 200gb 7200.8 drives

If I am lucky I will get 2500mhz again ..I would love to hit 2700 but I never seem to get there

DFI = Concentrating on overclocking.
MSI = More features than you'll ever use but great for light overclocking and normal use.

Thanks for the advice guys

Asus...seems pricey(as comapred to DFI) and a mdoerate overclocker..may have to relook at it...

My last Asus mobo was good one (like 3yr+ ago) but they porvided little few bios updates and promised a bios fix for newer chips and never delivered....

Kensai..are you saying the Neo4 will not overclock well

I will not use water cooling or extreme stuff but I feel a board that has a history of good overclocks means I will have easy headroom for my needs...often means good components and quality but clearly not always

I am not saying the MSI K8N Neo4 doesn't overclock well. Just not as good as the DFI. Generally, for the moderate overclocker, you don't need the extra overclocking features of the DFI but they can always be used if you want to risk your hardware or you've got some extreme cooling.

I prefer the MSI board for it's all around features. It's very balanced in features and overclockability.

The DFI is generally focused onto overclockers.

Thanks..seems like the Neo2 Plat was a hot item..but Neo4 has not been "as good" since DFI seems to have surpassed it

I am not extreme overclocker and have heard all the variables on the DFI make it a bit of chore to get to optimal point...

Maybe I should relook at the Neo4

I agree SLI is not a real concern but I like some of the added features on the DFI DR-SLI ie SIL sata controller that supposedly will work on optical drives

I only thought SLI for extra features and the possiblilty of some future physics card I saw them talking about in video section..could be vaporware of course

The real issue on the Abit is placement of the stupid 12v 4pin for the cpu..with my P180 and OCZ 520 W Powerstream I am not 100% sure with an XP90 that I will be able to reach the connetor without an adapter....which I hear can the ncause potential issue with o/c and stability

I have no issue buying an adapter to extend the 4pin 12v but I do not want to lose some stability

I love the Abit setup and even considered Neo4 because of nice my Neo2 is doing

sounds like you are not much of a fan of DFI

Do you agree an extension cable on the 12v 4pin is a poor choice?

Sure I do..it's the best overclockers board bar none. Super high quality too and cheap.

But they are totally changing the board this month.. why? Has some issues...

I don't like fans.

How did you find this out...any idea of an ETA?

Wonder if it is worth waiting for...new features/layout or just a new board revision

you can't really go wrong with DFI as long as you have
1. quality PSU (with at least 480W and 24A on +12V rail)
2. quality RAM (TCCD/5, UTT, BH5/6, CH5/6 or micron 5B-D; corsair has problems for some reason)

I am seeing reports of very high chipset temps...that would not bode well for longevity IMHO
