nexus one guys running CM what did i do wrong

I'm not exactly a noob nor a expert. I've rooted and flashed my old mytouch with CM back in the day before nexus one. I moved over the the experiement CM5 and then moved up to the nexus platform.

I didn't care for rooting as i was 2.2 but now the thought of the power button not working and i wont be able to wake my phone bothered me. Most roms will wake by trackball. So i go to my trusty cyanogenmod site.

I'm rooted by the one touch click thing same like how you jailbreak iphones. Then i used rom manager and clockwork recovery to take care of my needs. Downloaded CM6 + googleapps and tried to auto flash it and it failed. I ended up being stuck on the screen with the ! with the little guy on the side. I redid everything the hard way this time i wanted try CM5 and its google apps.

I go wipe and clear cache and install CM5 and then installed google apps. rebooted and phone turns on but NO GOOGLE apps. No market place so i can download rommanger and get back to where i was but then i figured i will try to just boot into recovery via volume down like my old mytouch. It worked, got back and tried again CM5 and apps, same result. Mounted SD and put CM6 + cm6 apps, same result. I gave up, i flashed Enomther`s TheOfficial Nexus1 - v2.11.3 and everything is nice and working now.

I cant get ADB to work for the life of me to unlock bootloader to get my fav Amon_ra recovery.

What did i do wrong with the CM install?

Well now that i have Enomther`s TheOfficial Nexus1 - v2.11.3, installed would Cyanogen be a better rom for me? I dont really use all the functions out there. Like i said only reason why i went for a new rom was because of trackball wake. I might go back to apps2sd because the froyo default stinks. I dont use the 720p camera, but having SETCPU might be nice again.

as far as the CM thing, it happens sometimes. Format your SD and only have those 2 files on it. Wipe, then try again.


edit:

install CM first, let your phone boot without Gapps installed. Once that worked, power off and flash Gapps.

If that doesn't work, try redownloading CM and Gapps. I've had it more than once where somehow the files were corrupted.

i've re done CM6 RC2 and 3 both about 5 times each. redownload on my desktop via chrome. downloaded off my dell mini via IE. I've gone and found other sourced for the zip files.

This just doesn't work for me. everytime i try via rommanager i get the ! screen when it reboots. doesn't go anywhere. i guess my nexus doesn't want the CM

Try using Amon_Ra instead of Clockwork. You'll need to find the flash_image file for it and flash it manually. Clockwork has been really flaky lately.

And of course I'm obligated by law to ask: You did nandroid before flashing... right?

i got it working now. not sure what exactly i did wrong but i kept trying and by the 6th try after i posted it worked. So a total of 10-13 tries i got RC2 to work and then i got RC3 to work their after.
