I think the Milestone did even better by selling out in 3 hours. Not sure how many were sold though.

Me neither. I was shocked when my friend told me of a new smartphone. The product release was not that publicized.:(

Google is sort of screwed when it comes to advertising for the phone...

If it goes after the iPhone, it'll lose revenue as Apple will take Google apps off the iPhone.

If it goes after the Droid, etc, it pisses off the OHA members, and cannibalizes sales from them.

The sales #'s would have been much higher had they just supported HTC & TMobile in releasing the phone.

Interestingly, 1/10 of the phones sold by Google found their way to eBay...

Who is Apple going to replace Google Maps with? Bing?

You mean Google Maps on the iPhone?
As in Google Maps on the iPhone, powered by Apple (since it is not a Google app but an Apple app)?
Well, I guess they would just ... switch out the name/branding.

http://www.inquisitr.com/56938/nexus-one-goes-from-bad-to-worse-manages-only-dismal-sales/

The number might not be 100% accurate but the number should still be low. Without a store presence and a strong marketing push, the causal buyers might not even know the existence of the phone.

Without a strong marketing push? I don't know about you ... but they have banner ads and text ads ALL OVER THE INTERNET.
This things has a HUGE digital marketing push.
If that is perceived as small ... then I would say Google has a bigger problem, since they kind of rely on online advertising.

I would not be surprised if the biggest problem is the lack of support for other carriers.
TMUS? Really? Are you kidding me? America's smallest carrier with the least coverage and the smallest 3G network?
If they had brought it out for at&t ... I would not be surprised if it had sold 100k-300k unlocked units.

Wouldn't that be Maps on Apple, powered by Google? BIG difference there.

yeah that guy is pretty clueless. google maps powers the whole thing.

this guy is apparently pretty stupid and should do his/her research.
Maybe then you would find out that the "google" maps application is actually an apple application.
google (at the moment) supplies the underlying map data but nothing else ...

... and apple now owns a map co. too.

I guess this goes to show the "power" of Google ad words!

I don't know about you guys but every site I go to that uses Google ads (which is, well, a lot of the internet) has been showing non stop Nexus One ads. Yet with no TV or radio advertising, the average person doesn't have a clue....

How does Google makes billions on this advertising again? Maybe this will show companies that they're wasting their money.

Yup! Couldn't agree more.
