I am a newly retired guy. I read on the computer with my Kindle App, enjoy various hobby websites, and play computer games, including Command and Conquer, Battlefield 3, Call of Duty, Portal 2, and chess and Bridge programs.

I do not have a smartphone, tablet, nor laptop. (gave laptop to our niece several yrs ago) We have a Kindle 'Keyboard'. The wife has a Samsung S3 phone. When we go out for the day, doing whatever, I wouldn't mind having a device to connect to the web. I think my budget would be @ $350, as I will soon be buying an expensive video card (nVidia GTX780) for my gaming computer.

Under consideration is the new Nexus 7 and the Acer or Samsung Chromebook @ $260-$350. I like the notion of being able to create content on the new device, but it's not critical.

Based on the above, what do you folks think?

I'd go for a Nexus 7 and a BlueTooth keyboard and mouse, or wait till a second gen Samsung Chromebook is released, the first gen Chromebook works OK, but it's not ideal IMHO, and it's super cheap, think crap made in China and sold at grocery store cheap. It looks good, then you touch it, realize it's super cheap.

I'd go with the LTE Nexus 7 when it comes out for $350. Get Internet access anywhere, and just pay for data when you want to on a monthly basis. Since you already have a good computer at home, I'd get a completely different portable experience on a go (especially since you don't own a smartphone).
