EDIT: looks like I'd need to root and dink around quite a bit. I went another route, I will put a generator on the excavator and take a router with me. I have it all set up.
I want to set the nexus up with a static IP, but I won't have a router to connect to. I see the advanced settings and how to set up a static, but I want to set it up to act as a router to nowhere.
I will be viewing one or more wifi cams that will be static on the same network. I don't have 3g availability on location, or I'd just use my phone to do the router part.
The project? I will be running a very long reach excavator, placing material completely out of sight below me. Scroll down on this link for an example.

I want to put a cam out on the stick, along with a battery. That part I know about, having set up many remote wifi cams and cameras in general.
I have a mount for the nexus, and plan on using that as my display.
What I'm trying to do is avoid adding a router to the mix. Power is a problem, and there is no time to get more hardware.
