Hey guys,

I am going to be hitting the road for work and hoteling it alot, so I just bought a nexus 7 and one of those Rock it speakers from webkomet (http://www.webkomet.com/item/origaudio-rock-it-3.0).

Does anyone know any good music streaming apps for the nexus? I am a total newb to android, been iOS for a while. Preferably free apps would be best.

Thanks

Google Play? I've uploaded 35gb to their cloud and can access it anywhere...

Besides that, I think any non-Apple app you've used on iOS is an option (Pandora, Spotify, Rdio, Amazon, etc).

Oh, there's also TuneIn for traditional radio streams from all around the world.

Check out subsonic, it streams your entire collection from your home PC (if you don't mind leaving that on)
Advantage over Google music being that you don't have to upload everything, disadvantage being that your home comp must remain on.

Google Play Music or Yahoo Cloud. I personally use Google Play Music. I can access all the music I have uploaded(it can automatically import your itunes library) on my PC, Laptop, or any of my 3 android devices.

I will check those out. I didn't know you can upload your music...hmm.

yea it works really well IMO

i currently have ~16,000 songs sitting on my gmusic acount. the limit is 200 GB or 20,000 songs, whatever you hit first. It has a few issues if your music isnt taged correctly and then a few even if it is but they are minor

as for other services ive always prefered Slacker to anything else. best selection for what i listen to and best ability to create true custom stations. also if you pay for it you can cache stations for ofline playing

I like TuneIn Radio Pro. You can interact with it from the unlock screen or notifications menu, set an alarm, or sleep timer, select the stream bit-rate, etc. You can even shake your Nexus 7 to "discover new stations", FWIW.

I'm using subsonic. it's the boss - if you can leave your pc on, and if your home internet doesn't have a bandwidth limit.

It's pretty nice because it also can transcode your audio files to a specific bitrate, meaning if you are using a crappy ISP with low upload speeds, you can lower the bitrate to keep it streaming.

It also just downloads music onto your phone, and keeps a buffer of the most recent ~2gb that you streamed, so if you frequent the same music it won't chew your data up. You can adjust how much memory is used for that purpose too.

turntable=good because you can join "rooms" where sometimes they have themes to them, sort of like pandora and the DJs are real people

I use EMIT, from the play store. I can stream all my videos and pics from my pc over wifi or data.
even more off topic question: should i even attempt this with straight talk, or should i just forget about it so i dont have to worry about being booted.

As far as free, I can't help you. I have had Rhapsody since 2001, and I must admit that their latest releases are actually pretty good. I also use Google Music to stream my home AAC library.

As long as you are on a wifi network, you should be okay. I am on Verizon with unlimited data. I use around 4gb a month, But I am on wifi alot, too.

I'd have to go with Google Music.

I wish there was a player that linked with it so I could use my GM collection with it. Zplayer looks nice, but I don't think it does that either.

i use the amazon match service, works the same as iTunes Match, except you can use it with everything, you aren't limited to iOS.

I've used both amazon and itunes match, they both work well. I would use google music, but the damn service is not available in the UK. bloody annoying.

EDIT: sorry, just realized you only wanted free solutions, both match services cost $25/year.
