Do you really get another $25 credit for a 2nd Nexus 7, even on the same account ?

I ask because I have a couple but assumed I'd have to use seperate accounts for us to get the credit on each one.

^^^ I used separate accounts.

Why would you reinstall everything?

Just use MSkip's Nexus 7 Toolkit and backup everything so you can easily restore your apps. It is free too but he will gladly accept donations for extra features.

The tech gods may be smiling down on me after all!

Glad nobody offered me the $80 I asked for this thing, just some lowball offers... because it turns out my credit card might have purchase protection. It's an old discontinued card which is no longer on their site so I can't look up all the details, but the rep thinks it may still be included in this purchase protection plan. That covers accidental damage up to 90 days. We shall see, but I've initiated a claim with them.

From now on, all geekware I buy (Nexi, iPhones, etc.) will be purchased with a card I know that has purchase protection and extended warranty.

Eug - That'a bummer. Hope you get your money back from the CC-Buyers Protection.

I lucked out and got a 3 year warranty through Walmart Purchase Plan. It covers this if I drop it ; )

We'll see if the credit card fully covers this, but so far so good.

I had to get an official estimate and it turns out nobody local repairs these, so I had to ship it directly to Asus for an estimate. It turns out the part - bezel plus LCD - is CAD$99. However, the labour is $40 and the shipping is $25.

Total is $164 plus tax (vs. $259 for a new one).

Since I already have a brand new one I'm not sure what to do. It's not as if I need a second one, but then again, for $164 for essentially a refurb that's a pretty good deal.

No one held a bullet to their heads and forced those people to signup for it.
Cell phone insurance, extended product warranties, life insurance(especially whole life and universal) are some of the biggest scams in the industry.

If you want real "Power to the people", tell your people to stop purchasing the scam insurance products in question in the first place or use an American Express card which gives an extra year warranty on top of the manufacturer warranty for free to purchase their electronics.

I know this is drifting off-topic a bit, but in the US the state and federal government hold a bullet to your head and force you to buy car insurance and soon health insurance. I know we were talking about phone insurance, but in a general sense it is true.

As far as the OP, this is why I have a case on my Nexus 7. But I also appreciate the low price, I feel like if something terrible did happen to my device it wouldn't be the end of the world since it can be replaced so easily.

Actually that is not true. If you have cash you can put a deposit down at the DMV. Insurance is doing our poor asses a favor.

Types of financial responsibility
A motor vehicle liability insurance policy
A cash deposit of $35,000 with DMV
A DMV issued self-insurance certificate
A surety bond for $35,000 from a company licensed to do business in California.

As long as you only drive on your own roads you don't have to buy car insurance.

I would never EVER go naked on phone or tablet.

Silicone case + screen protector.

It's not a matter of if I drop it, it's a matter of when. Plus 4 kids and all doesn't help.

Insurance is Legal Fraud anyway. You can never get most of them to pay out for legit claims.

Power to the people.

Paying for insurance for ANYTHING is gay. Insurance is a scam designed to take money from you not help you. So if you can find any loopholes to level the playing field...

By all means exploit them! Power to your wallet.
