Needs a new red pixel cartridge. There's only so many pixels in each cartridge and it looks like your red is running low. Unfortunately the nexus devices don't have user replaceable cartridges, so it's gonna be a PITA to replace it. I've heard of people partially refilling theirs without completely disassembling it but it'll be tricky.

Rudeguy is right though... Cartridge might have got cracked after a drop so your pixels might been leaking for a while. It's gonna look like a horror show in there if you crack it open.

Good luck

You could try taking it apart and seeing if any cables are loose, but other than that, at this point it's probably cheaper to replace than repair

no its a 2012 8gb model no warranty on it. this thing never gave me a bit of trouble always ran great, still runs great even with the screen problem.
whats it worth if I try to sell it in its condition.

Nothing. It would cost more to repair than its worth.

Check gazelle.com if you would like a 2nd opinion.

The Nexus devices have a lot of issues like this and it's well worth checking out.

The back is very easy to get off (thin but strong knife and edge it around the device to get the clips off) and I'm sure you can find the display cable if you check out a teardown website.

I'm not sure if there would be any point replacing the display cable. If it seems to be in fine. Might be worth taking it out and shoving it back in again.

You could check how much the screens are on ebay to get some idea of what it'd cost for a local repair shop to fit a new screen, but I'm not sure if it's worth it...
