Nexus 7 2013 worth it?

I have been reading reviews on this tablet the last few days. The pros I have read...

- Lightweight.
- Great display for full HD movies.
- Updates directly from google.
- Good sound quality.

The cons...

- Major touch issue.
- Tablet slows down after a few months (happened to my LG phone).
- Wifi 2.4gz conflict with bluetooth.

I am considering this tablet for a family member. They had a dell laptop circa 2003 that just kicked the bucket. They used it for reading, movies, Youtube (could not do HD), and printing.

What are your thoughts?

i y'axe me asus makes junky stuff. i want to get one of these but all the issues with it have convinced me to get the new ipad mini instead. also all the new snapdragon 800 and bay trail stuff is about to be released in better form factors (8-10 inch) and at cheap prices. i say wait and get something newer and higher quality. the only thing nexus 7 has going for it is the cheap lte version that can be used on different networks

Touch issue is mostly if not completely resolves. And mine hasn't slowed down.

The Nexus 7 2013 hasn't been out for months, so I don't know who is seeing it slow down. That was an issue on the old Nexus 7.

Nexus 7 is definitely worth it. No issues thus far for me. No touch issue, no internet connectivity/WiFi issues. It's about as fast as my One and almost as smooth, and the build quality and feel of the tablet are really good (as was the case with the first Nexus 7, in my opinion). Soft touch plastic is definitely the way to go - Samsung and LG still haven't gotten this right, but ASUS did with the previous Nexus 7 (which had more a rubbery grip) and this one as well. If you haven't used a Nexus 7 before, it's the perfect size. I can even pocket it in all my pants/slacks without much trouble. Anything larger (like all the 8.0" mini tablets) are probably slightly too big to do so, unless they have thin bezels.

Speaker volume is very good, though not quite as clear as my HTC One, but definitely good enough. The screen is excellent, far and away the best out of any tablet anywhere near that price. Good contrast, brightness, color accuracy, and of course resolution.

You aren't going to find better value in any tablet for under $300. Though for productivity purposes I would really like to get my hands on a Dell Venue 8 Pro with a keyboard when it comes out. I still will keep my Nexus 7 or maybe give it to a family member or friend if I get a Win 8 tablet, though, as someone will enjoy using it.

I loved the first Nexus 7 and this one is even better. Worth the slight increase in price over the first one. I can't recommend it highly enough.

The mini 2 is releasing soon. I would wait for that and see how it is or how it'll affect competitor pricing.

It is worth every penny. Speed is incredible on Nexus 7 2013 and screen is absolutely gorgeous. Best optimization and smoothness on any android device today. If you want the benefits of Android there is no reason to wait.

I owned both Nexus 7's and the new one is better in every way. I did have the touch issue but since the updates, I haven't had any issues. Also the slowness got fixed on 4.3 so even the old Nexus 7 won't slow down after time anymore.

Only issue is speakers are not loud enough. Good sound quality out of them but I wish they were louder. Not too much of a issue since I mostly read and surf the web but when watching videos, it definitely needs to be louder.

There is absolutely no competition to the Nexus 7 2013 unless you don't mind a kindle/nook. I love mines, paid only $100 for it because I traded in my wife's old Kindle. However I come from an iOS ecocosystem and do not wish to purchase some of the same apps over again and will be preordering an Ipad 2 mini if the specs are up to par.

My issues were solved on my old Nexus 7 with the OS update, too.

Also, have you tried any external speakers?

Worth it? Yes... been using the hell outta mine. But, question for other users? Anyone getting random turn-offs these days? I went from not powering off in the first few weeks, to having a few times in the last couple weeks where the device is off when I go to use it and have to power it back on... no idea what's causing the shut off.
