How much screen time are you getting with the Nexus 7 2013? Where did you buy yours? The one I bought at Walmart was only getting 5-6 hours with low brightness and syncing off, used for browsing and local video playback.

Estimated Screen Time = (100% / "Battery % used") x "Screen - Time On"

I don't remember, but 5-6 hours of actual screen on time doesn't seem so bad...

But it's advertised as having up to 9 hours.

Hmm, yeah looked up the AT review and they seemed to get much better battery life out of it.

Did you just buy it? I've heard you need to go through a couple of charge cycles (full power to near dead then charge back to full) to get to "normal" battery life, but I'm not sure if that's still the case with newer devices.

Pretty sure that's still the case. The kernel will learn your device and get much more efficient with your battery. I don't think the full drain is necessary, but a few days of usage, 3-5.

it also depends on what you do on the device

I'm very demanding on web browsing, open multiple tabs, switch tabs a lot, open links a lot, scroll a lot

on my nexus 5, people can get >5 hour SOT. AT nexus 5's battery test says 7-9

If I do web browsing, i get maybe 3 hour SOT. if I only watch a video, i can get more than 4 hours

Also remember that the Nexus 7's backlight is really bright. Anandtech tests at a calibrated setting whereas some review sites choose 50%, which can be much brighter than some tablets.

Anandtech's testing suite is also kinda strange.

For example, they got extremely long web browsing times for the HTC One X but anyone who has owned one (including me) will tell you that those times are impossible.

I am actually quite disappointed with the battery on my nexus 7. i can leave my ipad untouched for a few days and the battery will be basically the same as i left it. On my nexus is is dead after 2-3 days even if i close all the apps out. I like the hardware and the OS but the battery life is astoundingly bad.

Which is why I keep a dimmer widget on my home screen. It really is bright at the highest settings, which I almost never use.

Just the opposite of my experience. If I leave mine sitting all day (making sure there isn't a bunch of stuff running in the background and wireless is off), the battery drops only a few percent by the end of the day.

It really depends on what you are using the tablet for. When I use mine just for reading with the Kindle app and nothing else (screen brightness medium/low, wifi off, no games, etc) it can easily manage 12+ hours before the battery gets to "red" status (about 15%).

But if I'm playing a game with heavy graphics and processor usage, wifi on, sound on, etc, I have to recharge the tablet after as little as 3-4 hours. Video playback, whether local or Netflix, gets around 6-8 hours depending on how I set the screen brightness while watching the videos.

The one I bought (and later returned) was when the tablet was just released, 16GB, and at walmart. My friend just recently got the 32gb from Amazon, and it's battery life seems fine (up to 9 hours).

Maybe I got was a dud, but I wonder if the ones at walmart or first released models have weaker battery life.
