Nexus 6 Rumors?

I've just seen that it might be Moto and code named Shamu because of a 5.9" screen... I'm hoping that was a lie though.

Regardless, due to the underwhelming nature of the new Moto X and Punit Soni leaving Moto, I'm going to hopefully get the Nexus 6 or whatever they call it.

if its a quad 5.9" screen i'll probably jump on it.
if its a 1080p 5.2" screen my nexus4 is more than good enough.

i doubt its quad 5.9"; there were similar rumors for most manufacturers earlier this year, and only LG has materialized with it.

5.9 inches sounds big to me but I am SO ready to go Nexus that it wouldn't be a dealbreaker. Tech Times (I know) claims it would be a 5.2-inch display with QHD (2560 x 1440) which would rock. Tech Times also claims that it will be called the Nexus X because the novelist Philip K. Dick owns the rights to Nexus 6. I thought they might call it the Nexus 5 like they reused the Nexus 7 name.

I might actually prefer a 32 bit SoC. Speculation is the 805 with a Adreno 420 which would be a pretty big jump from my S4. It seems the entire Android industry (except Intel) wasn't even close to ready for 64bit when Apple dropped it and so we will be looking at a full cycle (three years after the 5S) before there are really strong 64bit SoC options that don't feel like stopgaps. Exynos taught me to fear slapped together mobile tech.

One rumor I read is that it will come in 32GB and 64GB sizes. That is probably my biggest hope as I don't really want to go to a phone with less than 64GB. I know Google is anti-onboard memory (or external memory) but I hope the fact that Apple now tops out at 128GB get a 64GB Nexus option on the table and a 32GB floor.

For the Camera it is better just because the stock app in the last year finally stopped sucking. My only wish is OIS and just better low light performance than my S4 with a similar total pixel count. The Nexus's usually have a camera that is middle of the road at that time, and we are finally at a point middle of the road means a decent camera. I just hope Moto, if they do make it, doesn't screw that up. The New X camera is probably good enough for me (I would love OIS though).

I mean, it would be a classically bizarre Google thing to do to just release a phablet and, for the regular size, just discount the 5.

They should do like Apple and roll out two models.

A ~4.5" Nexus 4 and a ~6" Nexus 6. Have the same internals in both.

If they put out a solid 4.3" device I'd probably get one off contract since they usually sell them close to cost. It depends on the manufacturer though.

• Motorola would be my preference since I think they've made some of the best, although most under-appreciated hardware lately.
• I also wouldn't mind a smaller version of the HTC One M8 which was what I consider the best Android phone from the last year.
• The LG Nexus devices were okay and had some good features, but the whole seemed to come out less than the sum of those parts so I'd be hesitant if they made it.
• Samsung hasn't made a Nexus phone in years, and given their market position I'm not sure they or Google would want to collaborate on another, but they generally do a good job and the Samsung components generally tend to be of better quality than what the competition can get from elsewhere.
• ASUS has done well with the Nexus tablets, so I would be willing to take a chance with them on the phone.
• ZTE or one of the other Chinese manufacturers would certainly be an interesting twist. It would certainly allow Google to hit some really low price points with the device, but their may be external factors that prevent such a collaboration.
• NVidia is another outside shot. They make their own SoC which could be some special sauce, and they've been gaining some hardware experience with SHIELD.
• Sony is another dark horse that could conceivably make a Nexus device, but I haven't had much experience with their products lately to know how I would judge such an effort.
• Microsoft seems highly unlikely, but I only list it because I suspect that at some point they'll just give up and switch to Android and something like a Microsoft Nexus phone would make one hell of a splash.

That covers most of the possible manufacturers, though there are probably a few that I've left omitted.

Maybe Motorola, whatever, doing some app testing and Nexus latest will always get updates first so no real choice.

For the sake of the mainstream public, I hope it's a 4.7" - 5" Nexus 5 Mark II, not a monstrously large phone like a 5.7". Even better would be Mopetar's 4.3" Nexus, but I'm 99% sure they won't do that.

I'd be very surprised if it's not a phablet. When even Apple is now making a phablet, it's definitely time for a phablet.

Shame we can't have more than one Nexus phone a year. Maybe Google/Motorola will really shock us and come out with two sizes (probably not happening).

But I kinda want a Phablet.

I sure it was planned a year ahead of time! So Google probably went big too! Apple was smart and did two sizes for their new phone. Google may have followed Apple's lead and did the same??? That would have been the right decision looking back on it now!
