Nexus 6 - Opened my eyes to big phones

Now that I have my Nexus 6.... What slim yet protective case should I get?

Well, I just ordered mine and I'll have it Wednesday, but I went with Caseology. I have one of theirs on my Nexus 5 and was always a fan. They're just TPU cases, but I like the style, bumper protection and makes it a lot less slippery (I tried a case from Speigen, but the material made it super slippery).

It's still too early to give complete impressions on this phone, but a couple of notes from my first week of usage:

- This phone is WAY faster than my Note 2. I honestly wasn't expecting to feel such a difference in speed.

- The battery life is pretty good so far. I would say it is about equal to my N2 at this point, but I haven't been in my normal poor cell coverage area. Once I get back to work that will be the real test.

- I miss the LED notification light that Samsung uses. I could see this being the first reason I root the phone.

- I have had the WiFi flip out a couple of times where it keeps connecting and disconnecting from any WiFi source every few seconds. The only way to fix seems to be a reboot or toggling airplane mode on and off.

- The front facing speakers are an awesome feature. I think have used the speakers on this phone more in a few days than I ever did with my Note.

- I really expected to miss the physical home button. I went from a iPhone to a Samsung and then to this, so the Nexus is the first smart phone I have had without the button. I honestly never missed it. I did have to get used to the back and menu buttons being reversed from the way Samsung does it, but I like this layout better.

Overall, I really like the phone. It feels like a significant upgrade from my Note 2 (which I really liked).

I am like Mr Anti-Root now but if I had a Nexus 6 I would root for the notification light and double tap to wake.

Agreed. But a colleague of mine said that you can't have the LED blink, it just stays on steady when there's a notification. Still...

Yes! Front facing speakers are now a mandatory feature on any future phone for me.

A friend of a friend of mine had a Nexus 6 for like a week before she returned it, solely because it doesn't have physical home button. I guess that's truly important for some.

You can do that with a rooted N6??? That just might do it for me.

Yup several roms and kernels have incorporated the led, different colors but it does not blink on all of them just comes on for notifications.

How does that work when you have multiple notifications for different things on the Nexus 6?
I guess I don't understand.

1.) Nexus 7 2013 only has one LED color notification light and it's white. No other color. Regardless of what color you set for any notification, it will only blink white.
2.) Nexus 5 has multiple LED colors, and they can flash and blink whatever color however way.
Hangouts message is blinking green, Hangouts SMS is blinking blue, missed call is blinking red, charging is a solid orange, 90% charged is a solid green, low battery, gmail, etc...each have another color, and so on.

So what happens if I had a Nexus 6 and I have a Hangouts message, along with a missed call, and I'm charging my battery which is currently at 40% in my scenario?

So the LED lights on the Nexus 6 don't blink? They only display "solid" colors? Interesting...

Some roms let you set the light for certain colors and notifications. It stays on because devs have not got it to blink yet from my understanding.

I switched from an iPhone 5 a few weeks ago and am loving this phone. It's fantastic and fits in my pocket (jeans and dress pants) easily with no problem. Not sure why everyone complains about the size. I really enjoy the larger screen. I could never switch back to an iPhone now.

I'm on Verizon now and waiting for my project fi invite. Although with me having unlimited data I don't know if its worth it.

I still have unlimited data from VZ as well, but want to give Project Fi a shot.

Just wondering if I could just use my Verizon sim if Project Fi doesn't work out.

Yea you should be able to. Just take it out, keep it aside. You may need a factory reset when switching sims for the Verizon sim to reactivate. I believe you get a different number with project fi unless you transfer your VZ number over, then it would be cancelling your Verizon service.

I'm impressed with the hardware and screen, but it's too big for me.

Holy crap, Google really needs to sort out updates, 3 consecutive OS flashes to get to 5.1.1

Screen is beautiful, OS is slick and fairly well thought out.
