Nexus 4 Camera is really starting to annoy me

This thing can't focus at all. Almost every picture I've tried to take (mainly of notes and such) requires 4-5 shots to get a good quality image. it happens every time. My previous phone was the Nexus S and I've never had any issues with the camera. Is this a common thing or what?

Also why does this phone gets warm so easily? a YouTube video will get this thing cooking..

Well known the Camera on this phone sucks pretty bad at this point. It was one of the main reasons I just sold my Nexus 4 as it also doubles as my point and shoot.

I almost think my old spare LG Nitro HD I keep around as a backup / Satellite Radio player in the house has a better Camera

It is by far the biggest disappointment for me of this phone. It's slow, unstable, confusing to use, and yeah the quality isn't great. Even worse, it is difficult to tell the quality on the phone after taking shots. Gallery doesn't do a job good enough which ones are better ones.

If anyone picks a phone for the camera, avoid Nexus 4. It's got some of the worst cameras out there.

Does anyone know if it's hardware or software? If it's due to the firmware/API, or the lens is simply not the same quality of those found in Sprint's Optimus G. Sprint version of Optimus G has a great camera from my 10-minute testing at a local BestBuy.

I think the N4 has the same camera as the ATT version of the optimus G which seemed to do pretty poorly in reviews as well. I've gotten some decent shots with my N4 when conditions were really good but those are by far in the minority most photos come out pretty crappy.

The 13MP camera on the Sprint/International version of the Optimus G is not that great quality wise. It's for sure better than the Nexus 4 and 8MP Optimus G's though. The software is superior for sure compared to the Nexus 4.

If camera quality is important and you want Android, my opinion is go with the HTC One S/X/X+/DNA/Butterfly/One, Galaxy S3/NoteII or Xperia S/SL/T/TL . They all have iphone 5 comparable performance cameras.

How are you using it? Are you holding down the shutter button until the circle thing in the middle shows green and then letting go? That will give very good results usually.

I can't stand the focusing issues. It makes having it for the quick, spur of the moment shot pointless.

I don't have much trouble with focusing but it is a lower quality camera than most phones. Brian has written about the smaller sensor and pixel size it uses to allow for a thinner camera module.
