Does the N10 feel as cheap (and ugly) as it looks in pictures?

I feel the Nexus 7 is more solid, but the iPad is more cold industrial feel to it due to the metallic back. Both the Nexus 7 and iPad feel more solid. The N10 doesn't feel cheap. It's right in the middle of the pack. Cheap = Galaxy Nexus, and the Galaxy S1 phones and stuff like that. Cheap is the HP Touchpad, and the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1.

I am somewhat dismayed by conspiracy-theories aimed at the screenshot I posted. Yesterday I did not read the posts in between - I read TuxDave's comments right after/before I posted.

I regret posting a screenshot of Windows 8 Start screen which is obviously off-topic, a snarky one at that. Guilty as charged.

But some of the responses are downright disingenuous.

- Leaving control to users is the reason for clutters? I do not comprehend this reasoning. Windows 8 is successor to Windows 7, thus a user will of course install her/his everyday software that worked on Windows 7. I thought that is what OS does - providing a bridge between hardware and other software. This "too much control to users creates clutter" theory is also amusing considering that screenshots of beautiful user-created interfaces are right above in Jpeyton's post.

- Accusing someone of manipulation out of ulterior motive, when you don't have any evidence to back it up. Let alone lacking any 1st or 2nd hand experience, from the looks of it. If you guys know how to manipulate Windows 8's Start Screen to look worse than it actually does, please let me know because I do not know how. My guess is you don't, either.

Anyhow, I will refrain from off-topic posts.

Why not? They took their perfectly functional "Start" menu, and made it uglier, harder to use, less functional, and less discoverable. I can fault them for whatever I damned well please.

It's also possible to put a 200 icons on the OS X desktop. Should I blame Apple for allowing a user to do that? At least with Windows 8, those apps are in an orderly fashion.

Don't blame the gunmaker if someone shoots themselves in the foot.

The Nexus 10 has better in-hand feel than pictures would suggest. I had one for a week before selling it. The hardware is great, the software is lacking (and for me, it wasn't worth keeping at $400. Maybe if it had more apps).

If you really want to hear a genuine response, I hope you read this. What I said reflects something that I think IDC said best by quoting this page.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confirmation_bias

With the the abundant access to information to the internet, you'd think that the natural progression is that people become more informed. But instead what we sometimes get is people seeking out and posting only stories or evidence that reinforce their existing view. So back to your screenshot. You sought to reinforce the idea that Win8 was ugly (that's my interpretation). So you found some ugly screenshot (I hope to god that it's not actually your computer) and posted it as a "snarky" response. When I said "artificial scenario" it's not really aimed at saying you faked it. It's more that you basically found the ugliest thing you could find and posted that as evidence.

It's something that I hope people realize they're doing. It's so easy to prove something like "Google maps is bad" by doing a search of "People stranded because of Google Maps" or "Google Maps wrong" or whatever. It's similar to the whole "bubble" argument against Google where it'll show more and more results that you're probably looking for which reinforce your existing belief. It's a bad habit and I try to catch myself if I find myself trying to use Google to find evidence.
