I believe he was confusing the quake-engine port of Nexuiz with this one

Why not play both? Looks like a pretty cool game for less than $10.

Nexuiz was an open source arena shooter based on the Q3 engine and then on the Dark places engine. The two lead devs did a under the table deal with Illfonic to create a commercial version of Nexuiz and sold the rights to them.

The community was informed only after the deal was done. This caused a huge uproar amongst the community leading to the creation of Xonotic.

You guys can't be serious. If you want to play Nexuiz, play Xonotic instead.

What's the difference between nexuiz and xonotic? i used to love playing nexuiz, and even have played version 2.5.2 in the past year. It's xonotic more recent?

I also have a hard time paying for the newer nexuiz knowing that it was an open source game that sold out, and betrayed it's users.

The community forked Nexuiz and created Xonotic when they found out what the devs did.

is it basically the same game though? Im downloading now. And im curious to how many people end up buying Nexuiz for 10 bucks, when theres a free version out there. I know that the versions of nexuiz are different, but I played the new nexuiz for 360, and it didn't seem all that much different/better.

just played xonotic, and yes it is pretty much the same game. Though if i had to choose between nexuiz classic 2.5.2 vs xonotic, i would take xonotic because it just seems newer and more updated (because it is). Pretty sure they havent touched the original nexuiz. Xonotic is still being worked on.

IMO the game kinda sucked for the 360, but i guess well see how the PC version is. It would be nice to be able to play vs PS3 and XBOX players all on the same server, but i doubt theyd do that with a FPS game.

So I picked up Nexuiz last night since it was only $10, and it's definitely an interesting game. I haven't had this much fun playing a MP shooter in a very long time. It's fast paced, the dynamic mutators keep you on your toes, and pretty to a fault. Since it's CryEngine 3 it looks great, but I've actually turned down the lighting to the minimum (and still feel bad about it) - the contrast between light and dark is so great on outdoor maps that you can't see anyone.

I need to get in more practice with the bots before I go online though. I still don't have a feel for all of the weapons, though the lackluster weapon HUD is partially responsible for that.

i played the beta on steam for a little, after that i decided i wasnt buying it.

Compared to the xonotic, theres just too much crap going on. Those stupid spring things are everywhere, especially in that outdoor level, didnt like the multipliers either.

It was an OK game, but compared to xonotic, it just wasnt as fun. Plus Xonotic is free, so it doesnt take much convincing to get people to play.

After hearing about how nexuiz kinda sold out, and the result is this game for 10 bucks, that is really not any better, i dont want to buy it out of principle.

How did Nexuiz sell out? I'm missing some back story here.
