My friend Sarah is interested in this "word of mouth" advertising company. She's said there's not selling anything and it's high tech services even though there's a buy in of $299. I've already called scam on it since you need to buy into it, but I want to see if anyone here has heard of it.

You sure this isnt one of those paid autosurf scams? Sure if you want to lose thousands, go for it.

They aren't scams so to speak. But they are MLM and do involve ripping off friends and family.

I'd disagree that PPL involves ripping off friends and family.

In that particular case you do-not have to "buy-in" to anything if you don't want to. The entire business revolves around the legal plans and not signing someone else up to sign other people up. It is an option however, which is part of the MLM aspect of it but it is not required, the key difference.

The plans are a good value and can also provide good passive income for the associate.

Paying $300 a year for 2 monthly phone calls to a lawyer seems a bit pricey to me. I guess its like insurance.

Not necessarily a scam, making money is possible, but it's just very difficult and a shady process.

A lawyer's time is very expensive. Besides, you get unlimited calls to a lawyer certified in the area of question, as well as trial time should you ever be sued. You also have 24/7 access to a lawyer should you ever be detained. They will represent you if you ever get a traffic violation to try to keep the points off of your record. You get your will redone every year. They will review unlimited documents before you sign them to make sure you're not getting screwed. They will make phone calls and write letters on your behalf. There's more too. Seems like a good deal for the price of a cup of coffee every day.

And since you are alloted unlimited phone calls / document reviews, you can have protection over things you probably wouldn't normally hire a lawyer for. Would you have your lawyer review your cell phone contract? Car lease? Would you call a lawyer to ask a seemingly trivial question? With it you can.

Okay, enough of that, heres your thread back, OP.

Oh, wasn't really aware of all that. I guess all those college kids constantly nagging me to go to a "presentation" sort of jaded my view of PPL.

Just have to mention one more thing. If your identity is ever stolen then PPL (in a partnership with Kroll) will totally restore your name without you doing any work. This is great in the era of credit card theft.

Disclaimer: No, I am not an associate for Prepaid Legal, I am just a well informed consumer.
