Nextvision N5 or N6

Has anyone used either of these? if so, what do you think about it? thanks

On the N5, it has a max resolution of 1024x768, but i'm wondering if that will affect the monitor at all cuz my monitor goes up to 1600x1200. If the max res does affect the monitor, looks like i'd have to buy the N6

What do you mean by "affect"? If your asking will runing a your monitor at 1024x768 w\ the n5 hurt it? No it won't.

I don't think the N6 goes any higher than 1024x768 anyway.

the n6 supports up to 1280x1024. What i'm asking is... Is the Nextvision the neck between all the devices hooked up to it?

let's say for example, I run my desktop at 1280x1024 currently. If I hook it up to the Nextvision N5, will it limit me to 1024x768 because that is the N5's maximum resolution? The reason I ask this is I run a lot of things at 1280, and I'm wondering if hooking up the N5 will prevent me from running at 1280?

the price difference between the N5 and N6 is about 150$ which is alot of extra money to spend if the N5 does not allow your monitor to have desktop sizes above 1024x768.

any ideas? thanks.
 
I see what you meen... I had a n5 and no it does not limit you to 1024x768... it just does simple VGA pass through.

might i ask what made you get rid of it? and what is the purpose of having the max res of 1024x768 on the nextvision box, if the monitor itself is not affected by the Nextvision box?

Tried using it last year to display my XBOX on a PC Monitor, wasn't happy with the image quality... TV broadcasts looked great, but XBOX was blurred and the color was washed out.

I think you are confused again... I'm going to try to make this as simple as possible. Think of the N5/N6 as a switch box that either diplays a video source(i.e. Cable TV) on your monitor, or output from your PC on your monitor. You can't use your PC and watch tv at the same time, it's one or the other. If you want to be able to do this then you need to go with a PCI TV Tuner card.

Yeah i get your point. I was thinkin of the N6 cuz it has the PIP that u can use for it.

Have you tried that out or you gave up after the N5? I really want the N5 or N6 but I would like some invaluable opinions on it since it's fairly new out in the market.

Does anyone else have an opinion on this?

The N6 also has component video in, which would allow for 480p from the XBox. I'd blame the poor IQ on the composite/SVGA source. $330-$400 is too expensive though IMO. Better to get a tuner card and use your monitor as the switch (if it supports it). Most cards have breakout boxes that do everything the N5 does. The N6 has the component inputs, but at that price point, might as well buy a nice TV. This way you would also get a cheap PVR and be able to use your PC while watching TV in a window.
