Who's used it in the past and how far did it go? I was thinking about buying a couple Nextel phones on eBay for secure coms. Don't ask why. :ninja:

It's a phone with a walkie-talkie feature. It went as far as your Sprint/Nextel service could go (which isn't saying much). I had it and, honestly, would not recommend it seeing as to how bad the service is.

Nextel network was shutdown by Sprint. there is no way any nextel phones work in the US without the network. it was not a walkie talkie, it was a phone with that feature. im told Mexico and some other countries still have the network up though.

You don't need the network to use them. They use 900 MHz FHS VSELP. It's like a Motorola DTR. They are sold on eBay.

My bad, not direct connect, but direct talk. I found this, but you may lose a few brain cells reading it since some ass in there thinks the average joe can intercept a frequency hopping spread spectrum signal using a VSELP vocoder. http://www.americanpreppersnetwork.net/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=29253

I got 2,100 feet with a DTR, but that was 1 watt. So I guess these may not be any different. Definitely cheaper though for a SHTF situation!

I loved it.
MUCH better than verizons version. it was instant like a walkie but over hundreds of miles and diff states.

too bad sprint fvcked it when they bought Nextel :(

yea it was a "neat" feature, i could see how it would have a very useful in outdoor work.

I was very happy with Nextel until sprint bought them. after the buyout my signal at my house went to shit. switched to Tmobile and was with them for 10 years, then for some reason my signal with them went to shit and kicked them to the curb 2 months ago. now im with Verizon and have solid full bar 4G goodness.

I think Tmobile is moving from providing to rural areas like they did when they got started and putting all their effort in metro areas.

LOL! Thanks Obama!

Any of you have someone in your life, you know, that guy, who swears his idiotic, babbling jokes are even remotely funny? If not, you do now.

You must be a ding bat Libtard and live in 'dead fish' Rahm Emanuel territory. Oh wait! You do live in shitcago!
