I have $400 to upgrade the following computer:

Athlon 64 3000+ Venice
1 GB Corsair XMS C2 Ram
6600GT Video Card

I'm thinking either another Gig of ram, an X2, or a 7900 GT.

HELL NO!!!!!!

That'll be a $200 upgrade, atleast.

Sell the first 6600GT, and get the 7900GT.

7900GT>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>SLi 6600GT.

Upgrade the X2. I just got a great deal last month on AT for an X2. You definitely have money left over to add another 1GB.

If it's mainly for gaming 7900GT and 2gb hands down. If you have a decent mobo o/c your 3000+ to 2.2Ghz-2.4Ghz. Thats the best route. Most all 3000+ 64's should do 2.2Ghz no problem.

Your gonna see little to no difference(gaming wise) just by upgrading the CPU I think. Another option would be sell the 3000+ and 6600GT and trying to squeeze in a 7900GT and 2x.

Yeah I can get 2.5Ghz with clockgen so we'll see. I am probably going to invest $30 in a Freezer 64 Pro either way.

I was also thinking 7600GT and another gig of ram at once.

If it's for gaming, an X2 overclocked to 2.5GHz will not give much (if any) benefit over your current processor at that speed, so I wouldn't recommend it. If you had to choose between more RAM and a 7900GT, the video card is going to give you a MUCH bigger increase in gaming. If you can find the 7900GT for around $270 (it was at CC for that much recently), then that leaves $130 for the RAM, which is doable.
