Here's my current setup, will be getting OCZ ramsinks and a VGA Silencer for my video card so I can flash it to a 9800XT, but looking for my next larger hardware upgrade.

System Specs:
AMD Athlon 2400+ XP-M @ 2.42GHz
Abit NF7-S V2.0
Thermalright SLK900U w/92mm Zalaman Fan
2x512MB Wintec PC2700 + 1x512MB Kingmax PC4000
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB
Soundblaster Live 5.1
Leadtek Win2000XP TV Tunercard
WD SE 100GB/8MB + WD SE 120GB/2MB
Pioneer 16x DVD-ROM
Thermaltake Tsunami Dream w/side Window Case
420W Thermaltake Purepower PSU
19" Flatscreen CRT
Logitech Wireless Keyboard/Mouse

I use my system from gaming to writing papers. Right now my temps are 38C Idle and 45C Load. I was thinking of going with a 64 CPU/MB but then if I did that would probably want to change to a Xaser series for cases. But then thought about upgrading those two PC2700's, maybe dumping all the RAM and going with 3xPC3200. They are in duel channel. Or getting a decent DVD Burner since they seem to be going down in prices.

So, whatcha all think should be my first priority? As far as $$ is concerned, maybe $200 out of my pocket then whatever I could sell any of my current components for. I could do $300 would just take an extra month to come up with it.

~Thanks

2xpc2700 and 1x pc4000 is not a good combo. i don't think it will run in dual channel for the 2700's with the 4000 in there, and the 4000 will run at 2700 speed so you are getting the benefits of neither. i'd sell the 2 2700 sticks and get a matching kingmax 4000 or sell the 4000.

you should get an a64 3000 and an msi k8n and overclock it to 2.5-2.6 and a 6800 gt if you can afford it. i don't know what you could do with that ram in terms of overclocking to mach the high fsb to get 2.5 out of the processor. i doubt it can do near 600 mhz which is what the fsb will put you at 1:1. maybe sell it and get pc 3200 adn run a divider

Dump the PC2700 and if you really need 1.5 gigs of ram then get 2 more sticks of PC3200. Is 1.5 gigs really necessary?

Deffinetly pick up a DVD burner. Greatest invention ever.

OK I'm gonna piggy back on this thread....

I'm due for an upgrade, but I'm a patient budget gamer as you can see from my specs.

Current setup:
AMD T-Bred 1.3 overclocked ~1.5
Shuttle AK31
512mb PC2100
Gainward TI4200
DVD, CDRW, 450w psu, etc...

Which is my better option?

1. Upgrade my box now w/ new mobo + AMD 64 3000 w/ 512mb and 6800GT vid card for ~$550

2. Eek out a few more months waiting on PCI-E to be the mainstream and then go A64 in hopes that it will blow everything out of the water for $/performance ratio.

3. Say screw it and just buy a Dell 2.8 P4 w/ 512mb + vid card for ~$600

HELP Appreciated.

The AMD setup will be wayy better, although with 6800gt + mobo + 3000+ 64 + new ram(you would want it with the new cpu) would cost you a bit more than 550, so I would go with cheaper card, like 6600gt

The GT alone will take up most of that.
