Next step from 440BX in a SLOT1 Board?

I think I blew out my trusty AOpen AX6B motherboard (sniff). I don't really mind replacing it, but I suspect that some advances have been made in the Slot1 Chipset arena for a Graphics Intensive PC that only runs SCSI. I can't afford to buy new RAM, Processor, etc., but I would spring for the right board if it was the next step up. I want to upgrade my 440BX SLOT1 Board with something a little better, which might have more longevity. Any suggestions?

I know you said you can't afford it, but just so you are aware of the prices you can get now, you could get a board & duron processor that would take your old SDRAM for under a $100 or there abouts.

I'd just hate to see you buy a new slot1 board for something if you can afford to get something much better and more upgradable in a price range you can afford.

For example you can get an ECS K7S5A board for about $60 and an Athlon XP 1600 for like $60 now. A duron would be even cheaper, mabye like $30, and you can use PC100 SDRAM with it too.

Just something to consider.

I wonder what this is about? I don't want to pay $2.50 to find out.
