Speaking of 8500 drivers...has anyone had problems with the mouse pointer showing up while running D3D? It shows up in all games that I run in D3D and in 3DMark2k1. I've also got a wierd issue in D3D with smoothvision enabled. My 2D overlays in racing sim Grand Prix Legends run off the screen...literally. They are all smeary and literally crawl off the screen...I thought I was having a flashback ;) 3D is fine but the menus are screwed.
I'm also having a problem with disappearing textures under OpenGL in Nascar4. There is a dark band of tire marks (the groove) all the way around every track. This layer just blinks on and off randomly.

I don't really play anything but GPL and Nascar4 (3dmark2k1 runs great, 7600s) so I don't have a big cross section of games to experiment with. Has anyone seen any anamolies like this?

I'm using the 98 beta drivers from the ATI site on a 8500 OEM card.

HAPPY NEW YEAR...almost :)

Hah! Waiting for new ATi drivers is like waiting for an ice cream truck in the middle of the desert.

I've noticed the occasional mouse getting stuck in Arcanum, but I found out it has more to do with the way I started the game then anything.

If you are running win98/ME you can try out the 9005 beta's. They work good and the reports all seem faverable.

Consider me gone from the 8500, never to return to ATI again. Windows XP and radeon go together like oil and water, and I'm tired of being a beta tester for ATI's crappy products.

I just ordered a CARDEXPERT GEFORCE3 POWERPAK GOLDEN SAMPLE for $169 at newegg, hopefully it will rock. I recommend anyone else who hates their ATI to keep an eye on newegg's refurb section, then flip your 8500 for a bit of a profit on fleabay.

Sorry for the rant, but I got tired of waiting for drivers that will ultimately disappoint everyone.

Myself with all the refresh rate issues with every card, lack of proper drivers for things like printers and scanners would have lost XP before the 8500. Call me happy to still be saying no to XP, by this spring things in XP land will be cool Im sure but for now I dont need headaches about even being able to set game profiles on my joystick. Like any MS OS it looks great and runs fine but has problems that need dealing with, 98se hasent done me wrong once since I learned how to fix the sys.ini mistakes MS still has in there.

Could you give some more details on the sys.ini issues? I must have been living in a cave or something :)

I am running win XP along with the Radeon 8500 and it seems to work just fine. My 3dmark 2001 scores are in the 7600's, but that is due to the fact that my card is only clocked at 250/500, instead of the retail 275/550. The only issue I am having is with the DVD playback, it does not look as good as it should, though that may be due to software, I am still investigating the issue :)

No kidding, the 8500 works great in my system for both XP and 98. It runs great PERIOD besides when running Linux, but I don't do anything out of the console so that's OK ;)

If its the blockyness/oversaturation issue then run a DVD and go into the display properties at the same time; look in the 'Overlay' tab and change the gamma value a little. See if that makes any difference.
