Next GTA NOT going to be called SinCity.

Hi.
I had a feeling that the next GTA was not going to be called GTA: Sin City, and will be called something like Sanandras.

EXCLUSIVE: GTA HEADS TO SAN ANDREAS!

Take-Two trademark registration bonanza leads to startling GTA revelations: Grand Theft Auto 6, anyone?

18:39 US publisher Take-Two Interactive went on a pre-Christmas trademark registration spree, the products of which point us tantalisingly towards the likely name of the next instalment of the massive Grand Theft Auto series.

On December 17 2003, Take-Two - parent company of GTA publisher Rockstar - registered three GTA trademarks, we can reveal. Crucially, the trademark "GTA: San Andreas" was registered on this date under the Goods and Services category as "Computer game programs and software and computer game cartridges".

On the same day, Take-Two also registered trademarks for "GTA5" and, significantly, "GTA6". You can see the full details of the registrations by visiting the US Patent and Trademark Office website by clicking here and entering the above terms into the trademark search engine.

The title of the next GTA game has been the subject of fevered speculation for months; earlier this week a listing on UK online retailer Amazon.co.uk suggested GTA 4: Sin City, but this has subsequently been found to be incorrect.

San Andreas has been favourite on the rumour for some time, however, it being the only city remaining from the original game which hasn't been reworked in 3D; and this recent trademark registration is by far the strongest hint yet that this is indeed the final name for the title.

Those of you with long memories may also recall that we reported back in January of last year (see here) that a Rockstar employee had registered the domain names www.gtasanandreas.com and www.grandtheftautosanandreas.com. "Meh, beginning to stick, the mud is," as Yoda might say.

Before we collapse into paroxysms of excitement over GTA5 and GTA6, it's likely that GTA5 is an alternative name for GTA: San Andreas, in the way that Vice City is, technically, GTA4. GTA6 on the other hand seems likely to be the code name for the true sequel to Grand Theft Auto III, the game that changed the face of gaming forever.

This title, the development of which we exclusively revealed way back in February of last year (see here), will release on the next generation of console hardware, still some way off.

We contacted Rockstar for comment on these trademarks, but a spokesperson was unavailable at the time of writing. The next GTA title is due for release on PS2 by the end of 2004, with Microsoft sources insisting intense negotiations are taking place to secure the release of an Xbox version a short while after. A PC version is also likely.

Keep it here for all the hottest GTA news, as it breaks.

Now obviously this doesnt point 100% that its not called SinCity or its going to be called SA.
But thinking about it logically, why would all net domains related to SA be under rockstar control?

It makes sense because it's the logical follow on from Liberty City and Vice City. San Andreas is the one left.
Games companies are not always locigal though, like Ion Storm releasing Daikatana.

GTA is sooooo boring.

A completely open-ended world with an awesome backstory, voice acting, environment, and free-for-all killing sprees is "boring?"

I hate to think of what you consider "fun." I've learned about your kind in my Criminal Psych courses: Maybe you're criminally desensitized. I should report you to the police before you go knock over a bank or something.

Prehaps the next main character will be called "Billy Buttmunch", i bet you would`nt change your name then! lol. 😀

lol.
Hes got a point though. How in the hell can you find GTA games boring?, especially the latest 2 games. I have a friend like that, he refuses to play GTA3 & VC, cos he thought that 1 & 2 were rubbish. Not exactely good reasoning.

i can see how it gets boring. i played it for about a week, and then lost interest.

its kinda like toilet humor for me. once youve heard it, its just not funny anymore.

if there even is one. rockstar games is under an SEC investigation right now. from what i've heard, its not gonna go their way.

I got about halfway through 3 and VC. They do get boring because it's the same type of missions over and over. Nothing really changes. They're still fun games to mess around in though.

That about sums it up. It's mainly just shock value, and then it's boring. There have been a lot of games that had awsome X, Y, and Z components, but gameplay was rather boring. GTA falls into this area.

Daikatana WAS Ion Storm, until Warren Spector, Activision, and Ion Storm decided to call Warrens development team, Ion Storm Austin.

they need to set one in new orleans.

Whoa! That would be awesome.

Especially if they got the roads correct.
Nah, it would suck. You could only drive over 20mph on like 3 roads without losing a wheel to a pothole.

Hitting a pothole at 90 would be cool.

The people in GTA3 already drive like the people in NO, so that's less work for the programmer.

Well I guess I was in the minority hoping the next one would be set in Vegas. But a Los Angeles/San Franciso hybrid would be pretty cool too. To me, the greatest thing about Vice City was the 80s ambience. That's going to be tough to match IMO. A Vegas setting in just about any time period could probably pull it off though. After playing some of True Crime (which is a great game in its own right) I didn't walk away with anywhere near the same level of enjoyment. It didn't really have anything to do with the city though. IMO it just felt like it was lacking personality in comparison to Vice City.

And I agree with the New Orleans idea. That would be a potentially cool setting. DC is a logical possibility too.

Havn't played GTA1. Still play GTA2 Multiplayer. GTA3 was boring after a little bit. Vice City was old hat gameplay wise, but the story was engaging - that's what makes a game for me.

And for the people complaining about the missions being repetitive - I don't remember any two Vice City missions that were even remotely close to each other. Name two?
