The coupe pic looks like an Intrepid to me, or some Dodge car...they're "nice", but look too similar to everything else...and I like VW, so I'm hoping that the final product doesn't end up too close to those shots.

I don't see how anyone could say the coupe looks like an Intrepid.. I seriously think one person said it then everyone just decided to agree.

The Passat Coupe is actually and exactly the VW Phaeton Concept which VW displayed couple of years back in an European auto show and it was called the "Concept D". Do some searching... Nothing to do with the Passat. If you think it looks anything like a crappy Intrepid, yu gotta get ur eyes checked. :p

That's why a lot of people lease new VW's and Audi's instead of buying them. If you get a lemon, you're only stuck with it for 3 years.

You think the coupe looks like the concept d here ?

http://www.speedycars.net/wallpaper/vw_conceptd.html

The only similarity is the fact that the roof slopes down behind the B pillar.. which it does on all coupes, but is unusual in this degree on a sedan.
I think the fact that it's red influences you fools a little too much.

So you're agreeing that the Passat pictures now have a roof slope that's gone more intrepid-like than they did in past passats?

[EDIT]I'm not saying it's a copy, but the direction the styling is going towards....

Ahh, fudge-it. I'm not going to be the poster boy for saying there's a resemblance. I believe the picture posted in teh first post (identified as the passat coupe) had a rear and side styling similar to what I know as the intrepids of the late 90s, early 2000s. Others have posted pictures that suggest the first post is in error, which changes the grounds of my claim.

Bytheway:

first to say red coupe looked like dodge = elfenix (lifer) i clicked on the link for the passat coupe first and the thought that popped into my head was "looks like a dodge"

intrepid = evilyoda (platinum member) The coupe pic looks like an Intrepid to me, or some Dodge car...they're "nice", but look too similar to everything else...and I like VW, so I'm hoping that the final product doesn't end up too close to those shots.

While I had my own thought about the intrepid (read the first few posts and replied), I'm the first one to bring comparative pics to help show the trend. In the passat link you provided littlewolf, I see a lot more of the passat styling being carried over than in that first post of the red coupe.

Yes but that means nothing when the shapes are that simple. It's like saying that the Altima looks like a BMW because of the shape of its rear windows.

No the Red Coupe which you are pointing to is a morph of a Skoda Coupe, which VW showed sometime back.
http://www.3harts.nl/passat2004/index2.htm

The Coupe of Passat shown on first page in blue color is the Concept D, which I was referring to.

And as far as the Intrepid resemble with the non-existent Passat coupe is concerned, I think the red color is throwing you off a bit. Apart from a sloping A-pillar which almost all cars have, I see no resemblence.

And here's some pictures of the Skoda Tudor Concept Coupe (which is derived from a version of the current gen Passat platform) from which the fake Passat coupe has been morphed.

Do u seriously see an Intrepid resemblence?

The closest the new Passat might look like is rumoured to be the top right picture in page 1.
