Next-Gen Gaming Goodness?

I am currently running my system OCed from 3200+ 2009 mhz level to a 3800+ 2420 mhz level. I have my computer finished, except for a defective RAM stick which is RMA as we speak. I want to know what games are going to be out that will push my system and then some. I know about Age of Empires 3 and Unreal, but are there any other games that are coming out that other people are looking forward to that are under peoples radars? I've been looking forward to STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl for a VERY long time and it probably won't see daylight this year...

So what games are going to look best on my system? What games are you guys waiting for? What genre fan are you? Think your PC will be able to handle the next-generation?

Waiting for Age of Empires 3.... aoe3.heavengames.com screens look awesome. It's an rts game, but it's to post to be revolutionary.

Quake 4
AOE3
Civ 4

I also have a strange curiosity about the game Prey. I remember that game from YEARS ago. It sounded pretty good with completely destructible terrain and a pretty original storyline. Now the graphics are Doom 3 level and it's not looking too hot on my radar...I don't know why but the thing kind of annoys me to some extent. I want interactivity and deepness, not running, gunning, dying, and restarting! I hate those types of games. I love Morrowind and System Shock series, as well as Deus Ex. Those were deep original games that stood out. Now today we got Doom 3, Half Life 2, and tons of WWII or equivalient based shooters. I want games that give you multiple options. I like Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and Far Cry is pretty sweet as well. If a game just gives you only one option, kill, then it becomes boring. What do you guys think?

Elder Scrolls IV - Oblivion...all you will ever need...ever.

When IS starcraft 2 coming out? That game definitely ruled...erm, rules.

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion to be sure.

Otherwise there's still SimCity 4, which is incredibly CPU-intensive. I've been a little out of the times here, but it crawls along on my P4 1.8 Willamette even on a medium city.

The screenshots look awesome. I can't wait for this game to come out. AOE II took about two years of my life, as all I did was play the game. Long after the game was no longer being updated, I finally succumbed to boredom. 🙂

keep dreaming 😛

No, it's coming out soon. Not a joke.

Quake IV will either be identical to Doom 3 performance wise, or Raven will push it a bit which they did with the quake3 engine. Either way, we know the gameplay will be better because Raven makes great games.

AoE 3 is an RTS, I just don't expect it to push a system too much. As long as it's not made by EA anyway.

Anything on the U3 engine is really next gen though. But it'll be a year before that. The only thing to test your performance on really is Doom 3, but the gameplay pretty much sucks.

I'm also waiting for FEAR. That looks quite the looker. I'm seriously waiting for STALKER though, as well as Oblivion. Games with some real replayability and depth earn big points in my book.

The following are games everyone should want because I say so:

Age of Empires 3
Quake 4
Serious Sam 2
Half Life 2:Aftermath
Command&Conquer Red Alert 3
UT2007(or whatever its gonna be called)
GTA: San Andreas

I'm looking forward to AoE III as well, but I'm hoping there is more depth to it than previous versions (i.e. hopefully it takes longer than 1/2 hour to max out on upgrades this time).

I was always a huge Civilization fan (even the Call to Power series), until Civ III -- what a horrible game. So let's hope Civ IV gets back on track!

I personally liked Rise of Nations (Thrones & Patriots) the best! Any idea if there are plans for a sequel??

Unlikely without Sid Meier. He went off and did Alpha Centauri with his own company, but Microprose kept the "Civilization" game rights. That's why Civ3 was so lousy.

Not that I've heard, unfortunately. That was definitely one of the better RTS-type games I've played in a while. I'm kind of hoping that AOE3 incorporates some of the gameplay elements, as I was not a big fan of the earlier "Age Of..." games.

I'm still hoping that Starcraft 2 gets made someday... what the hell is Blizzard developing other than Starcraft:Ghost right now?

Graphics-wise it Oblivion, and that's about it. Everything else coming out is based on currently available engines such as Doom3 and Havoc.

Anyone seen Boiling Point: Road to Hell? That looks seriously fun and MASSIVE. I heard it was 50 square km. That is nearly twice as big as stalker and more than 3 times as big as Elder Scrolls 3!

That's too bad about Civ - the best turn-based RTS series ever! But I thought someone else (not Microprose) had taken over the Civ series now? I don't remember who though........

im waiting for bf2 . i would love to play another starcraft. seen the next unreal engine? may make all our systems weep like little girls. lol. i liked doom 3. im waiting for quake4. i like to play role playing games really. wish another icewind dale would come out or something along those lines.

I don't know how anyone is looking forward to the expansion for HL2. It should be free. HL2 was wayyyy too short. You can run through the whole game in less than a day and it offers 0 replayability. They cut the story short in the middle so they can sell the rest of it for even more money on top of the $50 you already paid. Furthermore, if you didn't pay for the "gold" edition which costs another 40 then you don't get any mods other than CS:S.

Yeah HL2 was revolutionary for graphics but the overall is a huge rip off.

Sorry to rant 🙂 You can believe that is one thing I will pirate if it can be done. I pre-ordered HL2 and it was such a letdown when I blow up the teleporter thinking the game is about to get good and the game ends. I guess I am looking forward to it just so I can get some damn closure.

Other than that I'm looking forward to the expansion for Rome: Total War. Anybody on here who thinks a RTS can't tax a system should try that game out. OTOH I am more than willing to pay for that expansion since I feel I got my money's worth from the first part.

AOE3 I will definitely check out.

SC2 sounds ok although I never totally got into SC.
