Single Iphone 4G display: 960*480 3in
4 tiled displays: 1920*960 6in
16 tiled displays: 3840 x 1920 12 in
64 tiled displays: 7680x3840 24 in

That's right, a 24 in display with 7680*3840.

From BoM:

  • Touch screen controller, Texas Instruments, $1.23.
  • Miscellaneous interface and sensor components, $3.80.
  • Display, possibly from LG Display, $28.50.
  • Touch Screen, $10.
Theoretically, a 24 in touch-screen display made entirely from the above tiled 64 times would cost roughly 2786 dollars.

Drop the touch interface and controllers: 1852. That's not even 60 dollars more than a typical 30in display for 7680*3840 at 24in.

24 in display total pixels: 29491200
Full HD total: 2073600
30in total: 4096000

That would be roughly 14 times full HD's resolution and 7.2 times a 30in display's resolution, in a 24 in display.

Now, whether or not it's possible to produce that sort of DPI on a scale larger than 3 is the biggest issue.

A 21 in display would be 6720*4320, compared with 1680*1050 on my 20 in display right now.

You might get display res that high but think about this:
Imagine using one. You'd have to be within a foot Phyfe screen to read anything not zoomed in.

Also imagine manufacturing something like that. You wouldn't be able to simply put 64 tiled screens together. Especially considering something now needs to be connected to all 64. You'd have to somehow get them all working in unison.

Not saying it isn't possible but I think it'd be expensive.

expect this next:

4096×3072 pixels

AFter the blue ray market is saturated and they have sold everyone on the planet a 1080p 3d tv. hahaha.

I doubt it'll be that aspect ratio.

16:10 seems a pretty good balance for people with 2 eyes.

If you had more, or is named katie holms, then ok maybe you could put a wider panel to good use.

well yea.. cept the bigger the lower the yields of course. ibm had a quad hd 22" t221 or whatever a decade ago. perhaps its time to bring that kinda thing back. but yes, even that is lower ppi than the iphone screen.
