NEX 5N vs NEX F3

The NEX-5N has a higher ISO 25,600, a touchscreen LCD panel (with object tracking) that can tilt up or down, AVCHD 1080P 60FPS, has ISO 100, continous shooting at 10 FPS, and is thinner. Also comes with a portable flash, but I rarely use it.

The NEX-F3 has a built-in flash and has a slightly better battery life compared to the NEX-5N, but that's pretty much it. The lowest ISO it has is 200, it's thicker, no touchscreen LCD panel (no object tracking), the LCD panel can only tilt one way, slower continous shooting at 5.5 FPS, etc.

NEX-5N is hands-down the better camera. The NEX-F3 is an improvement over the NEX-C3 for sure though.

Thanks for the comparison! Any other things to consider? I was thinking that ISO perf. might have gotten a little better with the F3, even though the 5N goes higher. The Auto ISO on the 5N goes up to 3200, do you know about the F3?

The F3's screen flips back 180°, so you can do "self-landscapes" (haha), that's the only other +. I believe the 5N and F3 can both take the optional EVF?

The Auto ISO on the F3 has been updated to go up 3200.

The F3 tilts the screen upward 180 degrees, but barely tilts the other way. I'm guessing for self-portraits??
The 5N tilts the screen upward 80 degrees and downward 40 degrees.

Both models support the optional EVF, but it's extremely expensive.

OP what did you wind up getting and why?
Ive been out of the scene for a while and had no idea these cameras even existed.
I bought a F717 10 years ago when they were on clearance at CC and have been using it ever since, but these NEX cameras are giving me the itch again.

Get the NEX 7 because it has an EVF

Heh, I wish 😛

I still haven't decided yet. I'm waiting to see when the F3 gets to Best Buy so I can hold it in my hands against a 5N. Btw, the F717 is an AWESOME camera/camcorder lol

The F717 once was a mighty camera for its time, but now a P&S camera can take it down. I only stick with it because I know how to use everything on it. I tried using a friend's DSLR and it was a little more complicated than I anticipated to which my friend said, "yeah I just point and shoot with it." :awe:

Im waiting for it to give up the ghost so that I can psych myself up towards transitioning to a true DSLR or getting something that's reminiscent of my F717 like the NEX ones you're talking about or this one.

I have NEX-5N and love it. But, for the life of me I can't figure out how to set continuous shooting in M mode for 10FPS. Anyone?

I read all the reviews (yup, ALL of them 😛) and the 5N is a better choice.

I got my nex3 brand new at sears for $150 a month or two ago and I love it. The focus tracking thing is incredible to let you use a bunch of old lenses.

Hi,
I´m new is this forum. Searching in Google, I´ve found this topic...

I´m between NEX-F3 and NEX-5N,...I love 5N but I don´t know if the video click issue is resolved,...¿any new?, ¿are new units free of this issue?

Thanks for your help.
