This lunar colony idea of Newt Gingrich's seems quite intriguing. He said that it could become the 51st state. Just imagine that. A lunar paradise colony named "Newtopia," sheltered by a huge glass bubble. A 100 ft. tall bronze statue will be in the center, and all of the streets would be sparkling clean because of the child janitors.

No taxes! It will be very capitalistic, you'll even have to pay for air. And if you don't pay, they shut it off and cause freak occurrences like three tits. But one day you find a guy with a small guy growing out of his tummy. Reminds me of a movie, I think it was either Terminator or The Princess Bride.

The Newtopians will become malnourished and their muscles will become extraordinarily weak, preventing them from ever returning to earth. The United States will cut funding to the extremely expensive colony, and many Newtopians will starve to death.

An image of what Newt may look like if he were the emperor of the lunar colony and kept alive for the next 50 years by unnatural means:

Ahh yes! Newt with his complete understanding of the effects of low G and radiation.

At least he could afford steak on the Moon @$10k a pound.

This just proves that you can promise the moon as a politician!

We need a moon Casino. If you cant pay they just shove you out the airlock.

Having the moon as the 51st state would be the ultimate symbol of the United States power. No matter where in the world you were you could look up an see part of America.

US politicians can be really dumb.

With no atmosphere , the moon experience daily meteoric impacts.

A glass bubble would be destroyed with the kind of meteorit that
are daily burned in the upper layers of the atmoshphere as otherwise
they would impact the ground at speed in dozens of miles/hours,
enough to dig quite big trenches at the surface..

So the solution would be underground bases but then , it would
cost by the thousands of bn$.

I would rather live on Mars.

Titan would be cool too. Just think of the assume Saturn views. And with the thick atmosphere a transparent dome colony would be more practical than on our moon.
