Interesting Newsweek poll that suggests the democrats are closing on Bush as we get closer to the election...

Thoughts? ;)

That's nice. Maybe that'll help get the Republican election machine rolling. It's been sitting in the driveway getting pelted with snowballs for quite a while.

Time for the rubber to hit the road.:)

I'd like to see polls that are taken only in the south, because that is where the biggest hurdle is.

See, that's something I have always wondered. To someone who lives say, in the South, where support for Bush is very strong, it seems to them that there almost is no point for an election and Bush will almost get every vote (exageration of course). In other parts of the country there is a strong feeling that Bush has got to go, and that the country generally is headed in the wrong direction. The different parts of our country have always been divided in how they think the country should be, but it seems to me over the last 10 years or so, it has become increasingly more divided. The partisanship has risen to such a high level that nothing is really getting done other than endless name calling and arguing....but I digress.... ;)

The predictive value of a poll (as opposed to the "accuracy" of the poll) is inversley proportional to the length of time before the event. There's a long time until the election. The predictive value of this poll is, accordingly, of not much value.

Agreed, but it may be a hint of a trend as we get closer to election time and more people are paying attention. If polls that follow show a similar result, than to me, it would suggest a general trend of the democratic cadidates closing in on Bush. I am not trying to say by posting this one poll that it is how it will be come November..we all know how polls go...like in Iowa. ;)

It's going to be 4 more years for Bush if Kerry is the Democratic nominee.

The reality of the thing is if Kerry doesn't have what it takes to win key states in the south, he can't beat Bush. What does Kerry possess that appeals to southern voters?

That's the problem. To be honest with you though, I don't understand the south.

Also, aren't some of the lowest rated schools found down there?(specifically Alabama)

I do believe that Democrats are gaining ground, but still far off.

This poll was taken by people over the age of 18, not likeley voters. Plus it would have to be divided by state to take into account the electoral college and not the popular vote.

Remember, Gore only lost by 4 electoral votes)... if Kerry can win all the ones Gore did, as well as one more...

If the Bush re-election campaign hasn't started yet, then WTF was the state of the union address?

He'll have Edwards.

That's a joke. I just got back from NC and they hate Edwards there. They say the only reason he's running for pres is because he's not gonna get reelected to his senate seat! He may be from the south, but his values and voting record prove that he sure doesn't represent the south!

Edwards said he will not settle for VP on a radio show(C-Span was covering it, but I forget the name of it)

Well it would have killed his chances to become the nominee if he admitted otherwise.

I live in NC and I can tell you that people don't hate Edwards. The main criticism of him is he's spent more time running for President than representing us.

Mostly, the people who hate him only feel that way because he's a Democrat. I have Bush loving friends who say they'd vote for Edwards for President.

Don't discount peoples' value of having the President from their state.

IMHO, Edwards has better speaking and debating skills than anyone in the race. He would wipe the floor with any of the President / VP candidates in a 1 on 1 debate.

What, do you expect him to say he'd be just as happy as VP as he would as Prez? He's running for President, that's the job he's going to say he wants.

Whitling's exactly correct, as usual.

But, it is fun to see a Dem on top for a change. They've been taking it doggy style for so long.... :)

Edwards is coming on strong. He might pull Florida out of the hat for the Dems, but Graham would be a better choice for Kerry. He is well-known in Florida and that alone is worth 5-10 percentage points at the polls as you all know. Graham is also liked in Florida. To be fair, Jeb Bush is also widely liked but Florida's demographics are changing as we speak. It is becoming a Democratic stronghold with its huge Hispanic population.

The race is going to be tight this time simply because Bush has made so many stupid political moves. He's fed big bucks to a select few voters and stuck it to a LOT of voters. One almost gets the feeling he doesn't care if he gets re-elected he's been so careless. And once that political bus gets out of the driveway, CAD, if Bush is on it, look for a crash. :) He'd be better off grabbing some Rosary Beads and saying Hail Marys until November. :) If he's smart he will pull an Arnold with the debates. He's a terrible extemporaneous speaker. Kerry will just kill him as long as Kerry avoids the dreaded Stentorian voice.

It is becoming a Democratic stronghold with its huge Hispanic population.

because they want free handouts from the government.

Let me guess. Someone will use the "r-word" to describe this statement, and 5 American flag-avatars will scream that they're yet another liberal playing the race card.

Jadow:

Yes, we don't have a single Hispanic in the state working full time, unless you count standing in the welfare line. Just pitiful the way these people with too many z's and s's in their names don't know their place. Like washing my clothes and fixing my food. Me personally, if your relatives didn't come over on the Mayflower, well....

Don't even get me started on Jews....
