I saw Metallica in Chicago last weekend and all 'n all it was a great show. But Jason's stage presence<sp?>, ability to connect w/the crowd, and growl backing vocals were sorely missed. Nothing against Rob. He's a trip to watch and I think he has great energy and vibe, but he doesn't seem to do backing vocals. Kirk got the call to do backing vocals but he just can't do it very well. He gets a A for effort, but he just doesn't have the voice for it.
The time it really hit home was during Creeping Death. If you've seen Metallica live you know what I'm talking about.
I came home and listened to some of the live trax I have and, wow, Jason added a lot more live than I thought. Just another example of not realizing what you have until it's gone.
I know they'll find a way to "fill in" the gap Jason left, but I don't think their live shows will ever be the same. Jason stepped into some big bass shoes left by Cliff, and Rob has stepped into some big live shoes left by Jason.
Lethal
