oh god, you people suck...

free agent from forte...

go to www.forteinc.com

it's quite user friendly, there are some features that get more advanced, but, it's FREEEEEEEEE.

i use agent (the non-free version), but i had free agent before that...

just download, and browse the menu commands, and you're set.

if you know how to configure say, eudora, you know how to set up agent.

If you want a good free newsreader Use this I have been using it for about 4 years with no trouble at all and it is free. This program is far superior to outcrook or nutscrape.

Dammit Locutus of Board that is the link I posted.

xnews, i think, is another good one, but i found it annoying.

outlook express is only good for TEXT ONLY stuffs... binaries, you gotta go somewhere else... like free agent.

You can go to earthlink's website, they should have it listed somewhere...

You don't HAVE to logon to earthlink's newsgroup... if you are a part of an organization and they have a newsgroup server, you can logon to that one instead (ex. your company or your school)... just find out their nntp server address, and maybe the username and password to logon...

Newsbin...any one it's not free but I hear from some unscrupulous people that cracks are available....mine is registered. I also had Tiffny for awhile, that was also good.

Sorry to jump in so late. Can Outlook98/2000 read newsgroups or just Outlook Express?
Also, I just started using newsgroups (awesome resource - what was I thinking all these years?!?!) and I'm using OE. Does OE actually download the messages to my PC or not? Thanks a lot!

I'm looking for a program that scans the news groups and downloads the binary files. NOT JUST PICTURES. I don't really care for the porn on the newsgroups anyway...What do you guys use/reccomend?

**EDIT**

I'd prefer something free...
