Newsgroups service suggestion wanted

What I'm basically looking for is a newsgroup service with no monthly download limit, good speed (1MBps or better) and long retention. No daily download limit would be nice, but not necessary. I've used EasyNews and their 6GB a month isn't enough. Let's hear some suggestions.

You won't find nearly the same retention with any other server. If completion/retention is AT ALL important to you, stick with Easynews. You do know that the 6GB will automatically rollover into a new billing period if you exceed it, right?

If you are more interested in download amount, go with Usenetserver. I hear a lot of good things about them but I tried them both and Usenetserver has maybe 2-5 days of retention in high traffic groups where Easynews has almost a month.

Yep, it's just that I've got a ton to download. About thirty episodes of Alias at around 750MB a piece, gonna get a little expensive. Anyone ever used Athena News, Active News or Newsgroup NNTP Servers?

I use the news server that come with Cox HSI.

There is supposed to be a 15GB/month limit for Cox internet, but I've downloaded over 100GB in the past 3 months.

Retention isn't that good, but you're allowed 4 connections at 384Kbps for a solid 1.5Mbps.

I use Earthlink (since it comes with my ISP) and it seems slower than it should, but the download is unlimited, and retention depends on traffic so far as I know.

Same Here. When they start crackin' down on it, my roommate and I are screwed...

www.newsfeeds.com is pretty good. They have daily limits, but its per server and there are 5-12 servers. If you use NewsPro or another reader that will combine the servers and manage all that for you, then it's usually not a problem getting what I need. In fact, I'm not sure I've ever maxed out enough servers where I couldn't download what I needed. I've downloaded two or three multi-disk VCDs before in a day if that gives you any indication. Retention is pretty good, probably 3 or 4 days minimum on most all groups. That is a conservative guess, and probably on the low side.

Speeds are good. They have (or at least did when I last checked) good setup tutorials incase you aren't used to using multiple servers. They can config files for a couple different readers that makes setup a breeze. It's $19.99/month, or you buy a year at once and it's less.

If you haven't tried NewsPro, it's an incredible program. How the guy wrote it and kept it so small is amazing. Less than a meg in size, and it does more than any other reader I've seen. He has new updates every couple weeks as he adds even more stuff. It's $39.99 I think, and worth every penny in my opinion. Free 30-day trial is available at newsfeeds.
