I'm looking for a good program for downloading newsgroups and usenet files. Anyone have a favorite or two they can recommend?

Newsleecher is my current favorite by far. Giganews Binary News Reader is also very good. A lot of people like NewBin Pro.

By "files" do you mean binaries?

And if by "binaries" do you mean yenC encoded files?

If yes, then either the full version of agent or the Xananews. Alternately, there is some plugin for yenc that you can use with other clients. I have never used them though. I used agent in the past, but prefer Xananews now.

Newsleecher is the easiest to use and the best as far as I am concerned.
It still has some minor bugs, but since I switched from Agent, I never looked back.

Don't you have to pay monthly or yearly to use the upgraded version of NL with the better search, etc?? I've used Newsbin Pro and I thought NL shareware was much much better. Are there any better ones that either are free or cheap one-time cost?

How does NL compare to Newsbin Pro? I have a paid version of Newsbin, it works but it's not exactly easy to use. The IT guy for my company couldn't figure it out.

I used to use Newsbin but once I tried Newsleecher there was no turning back. It took me about 10 minutes to figure everything out.
