so... definitly need to have a discussion that revolves around this specific episode of Neurotically Yours..
http://www.illwillpress.com/
(its on front page, titled 'News')

basically, i completely agree with Foamy (the squirrel) on his rant about the news.

3rd world countries definitly don't need to drag down on us because they are so screwed up. They are that way because of the actions they have taken, and more likely because of actions not taken. Every country started off in the same boat at some time, it takes a bit of work to have an economy and a society like those of the industrial and tech worlds, like Japan, America, Canada, Britain, Germany (most of europe for that matter), up-and-coming China (in parts), I think India is, etc etc. Why must third-world countries expect handouts to help keep them alive as a country, and why must the rest of the world hold hands with Africa because of AIDS and starving children. The individual countries in Africa should have the responsibility, money doesn't solve their issues. You get money, spend it on things like food and condoms, and oops, all of a sudden money is gone and they are back in the same boat they started in, they just took a cruise in a nicer ship for a period of time. It takes effort, and not money, to make change. Get leaders that enforce certain policies, encourage non-profit organizations to help by making places like soup kitchens, and encourage entreprenuership through government agencies to help private businesses get a kick start. Some money may be needed for that, but they seem to feel the sacrifice of forcing children to live as they already do (and thus quite a few likely dieing in the process) to be worse than establishing an economy to prevent this in the future.

Because what remains of 3rd world countries are, by and large, run as dictatorships that champion religion, and supress free thought, free speech and free enterprise. Educated people who ask 'why?' are not as easy to control, and by focusing the people on soemthing like a religion, it keeps them from thinking about things like rebellion, who is really at fault for thier plight. Generally the governement and clergy combo use a scapegoat to blame all thier issues on to keep attention of themselves, living in thier vast wealth. And the people in the countries are too cowardly to stand up and say no-more.

Is social terms, the majority of these 3rd world countries are where europe was durring the dark ages. But in the infanate wisdom of the various indutrialized nations, these 8th century cultures now have 20th century weapons. And many, especialy the europeans, feel some sort of moral obligation to ease the suffering in those places. But money wont do the job, only by internal reform can a nation move out of a 3rd world status. Many of the asian counties have done so in the last 20 or 30 years, in large part by spending time and moeny education the population and embracing the economic models of the idustrialized nations. But until the people themselves decide they have had enough oppresion and control by thier governemnts and clergy, then anything the rest of the world tries will be nothing more than awasted effort.

How many theocracy's reside outside of the middle east?
Most 3rd world dictatorships are socialist or fascist in nature.

Not theocracies per say, but the dictators in africa do use religion as a tool between the various tribes. And outside of the middle east and africa, there isnt a whole lot of 3rd world left. Asia is mostly comming along, as the nations in eastern europe are slowly finding thier way after the fall of russia, but by and large those nations are on the(more or less) right track.
