Out of curiosity, shouldn't the "quote & paste" news threads that get posted in OT actually be posted in P&N? They are "news".

Or am I misunderstanding "Politics & News" in that it isn't actually two separate entities - politics, and news, but rather "Political News".

As noted, this is more of a question - some of these news threads in OT are pretty damn funny and it would be sad to see them moved to P&N. But then again, seeing posts about Transgender Women drowning their 73 year old husbands in P&N would be funny in it's own special way.

I would prefer that P&N became Politics and Religion, and News was brought back to Off Topic. The purpose of P&N is heated debate - but a lot of news is informative, not a topic to argue over.

Some of the news stories are "too tame" for P&N so they go in OT.

The problem I've always have had with this is that it can bring a political agenda to OT that belongs in P&N. If I were to consistently post news stories of a particular nature, say any story that mentioned radical environmentalist groups reeking havoc, you start to bring forth a political agenda. People end up only seeing and discussing radical environmentalists. The stories that are brought to people's attention in the news greatly affects how they are perceived. Should we then allow people to start posting pro-environmental group new stories to offset the negative ones in OT? If we do this then it obviously falls under the realm of P&N. The worst part is that some of the people that should know better do this intentionally, sometimes cross-posting a story from P&N.

The news stories that fall under the category of being funny, weird and/or novel should probably be allowed to be posted in OT.

They do this anyway. The thread about the guy in Buffalo that beheaded his wife turned into a P&N (Religion) thread rather quickly, but it's still in OT.

I thought the rule was that if a news article was linked to, then it should go in P&N? One of the mods said that a while back, maybe it changed?

For me, if its entertaining I post it in OT. If its something about how crappy Michigan's government is, I post it in P&N. If its something else, I don't post it at all.
