News: The new Agility 3 SSD from OCZ.

Just saw this on cnet. Stated as 'budget' high-performance SSDs. Here's a snippet.

OCZ claims that the Agility 3 can deliver up to 525MBps in reading, 500MBps in writing, and up to 60,000 4KB random-write IOPS, while the Solid 3 can reach 500MBps reading, 450MBps writing, and 20,000 4KB random-write IOPS. Basically, they are fast.

Now, the most important part is always the price. The Agility 3 comes in 60GB, 120GB, and 240GB capacities that carry the estimated price tags of $135, $240, and $480 respectively. The Solid 3 comes in 60GB and 120GB capacities that are slated to cost $130 and $230 respectively. They will all be available for purchase later this week.

The m4 is also of interest to me. Though I couldn't a find spec sheet like the OCZ one you posted. Would really like a review from Anand for these new drives.

The three letters in front of this SSD ensure that I will never buy it.

Can you explain what you mean, and/or provide some links on how you formed this opinion? I'm interested in buying the Agility 3, but I've heard some people saying this about OCZ and I don't know why.

Me too. I went the Intel route. If i wanted to Beta test a companys products i would at least expect something tangible in return, i.e a decent RMA process that doesn't involve jumping through hoops. Every so often i pop into the Intel SSD forum to see if anybody is complaining about drive failures. It's the total opposite of the OCZ forum, which is full of them!

There were some issues with the late-run Vertex 2 drives and OCZ handled the situation...poorly to say the least. You can find a summary in Anandtech's review of the Vertex 3.

Here's the situation: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4256/the-ocz-vertex-3-review-120gb/4

By the way, the "up to" speed ratings of these new drives doesn't refer to lower quality NAND, it refers to the fact that the larger drives will generally perform faster than the smaller drives. You really have to read the specs carefully (especially the IOPS ratings for a particular size). The table in this review gives you some idea of what the differences are for the Vertex 3 series: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4316/ocz-vertex-3-240gb-review
