Technical news:
December 5, 2006 - 23:15 UTC
Today we had the usual database outage a little bit later than normal (the person who usually does this was out sick today). Nevertheless, it was short enough that it still remained within our claimed 4 hour window.

An addendum to the previous tech news item: The recent Intel donation is not a quad dual-core Xeon processor system - it is a quad single-core Xeon processor system using hyper-threading (which shows up as 8 processors according to the OS).

Appart for Anandtech's stats, it shows how much more/less than Anandtech.
Also shows based on Average Work Done how many days for Anandtech to overtake the team, or be overtaken by a team behind...

I'm utterly speechless... We can transfer our credits from classic to BOINC? OMG. I was so pissed that they cancelled SETI classic, that I agreed not to crunch SETI anymore. But wow.... That's awesome...

Thanks much for the news, Rattledagger.

Hmm, think you've mis-understood a little, everyone will start with zero "credits" under SETI/BOINC, but if you click on a user your "classic" wu-count will show-up like this:

The Ministry of Serendipity
SETI@home member since 15 Jul 1999

URL http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=39
Total credit 0.00
Recent average credit 0.00
SETI@home classic workunits 8,099,009
SETI@home classic CPU time 45,376,493 hours

As you can see, the SETI/BOINC-credit is zero, since MoS never has crunched any SETI/BOINC-work, and despite MoS was #1 in "classic" with 8 million "classic"-results. (And no, I've got nothing to do with MoS, just used them as an example).

As for "classic" shutting-down, it doesn't make sence to keep a project running after 100% of the "classic"-compatible tapes has been crunched and validated...

8 million.... WOW. Okay, I was understood... Thanks. :( And yes, I know it makes perfect sense that they shut SETI classic down, but I came very late in the game, and was very sad to see it go....
