News of X880 XT???

Has anyone heard or seen any news of the X880 XT, specifically when it is to be released? I am itchign to buy a computer now but that would mean S478 and AGP. So I am just wondering when the X880Xt will come to market.

Wow, anyone running a PCI-E rig with either socket939 or LGA775 and (assuming) DDR2 by the end of summer is going to have to spend a fortune. Besides, there will most likely be absolutely no performance gain over the X800 XT, since AGP 8x has not been maxed out yet. If you really want PCI-E, I would set your sights on R500 or NV50.

The price of DDR2 RAM alone is outrageous...

i agree, when i finally land a job im goin to get spendin on the upgrades!!!...figuring it will be cheaper to upgrade rather than buy a gaming laptop for uni......i still wont be buyin one of these new cards....1024x768 or 1280x1024 does me jus fine and ill only be wanting to play UT series games soo i figure a x800 or 6800 is a waste when my current 9500pro can do what i want pretty well....if i do upgrade i will be goin 9800.....r420 just isnt special enough, does what 9800 can do only faster......woot :|

I think ATi will release a PEG (PCI Express for Graphics, meaning PCI Express x16) line-up around June, which means the X300, X600, X600 Pro, and probably the X880XT BBE (Bling Bling Edition).

R420 may be transistion tech, but so was GF4. It's a nice refinement of the initial architecture, which means lots of usable speed. R500 may bring SM3.0, but will it be fast enough to make use of the special effects SM3.0 enables that is too hard or impossible to do with SM2.0?

Actually, R420 is evolutionary tech, while R423 is transition tech. IMHO, there is a big difference. For great performance with an AGP slot, R420 or NV40 is a great way to go. On the otherhand, jumping on the PCI-E bandwagon right away is going to be costly with minimum, no, or even negative performance gains over AGP. The only thing that is certain about the 1st generation of PCI-E hardware is that it will be expensive. Chances are it will also be high performance, but this is a major change and may have bugs that affect performance as well.

There were pics of finished ATI PCI express cards floating around in December. I am sure they have them working well by now.
