an e-mail I recieved, and thought some other folks might be interested in:

They finished the well at 700 feet, 8 gallons per minute. That's damn near sea level, starting from here:

We were hoping for 10-15 gallons per minute, but it simply wasn't going to happen. We've had water since Thursday, initially it was really murky (lots of rock powder in it), but it's cleared up nicely. Almost perfectly clear now, & drinkable. Decent taste, which should improve when the chlorine they put in to sterilize it goes away.

That's about all, it's really nice to be able to take a shower at home again.



I'm trying to behave myself here in banned-land.

Can't they build some kind of storage tank and pumping system to increase pressure? I guess that would add a lot to the cost though. I have no idea what 8gpm compares to in terms of city water pressure, doesn't seem like much though.

Well, it's been over forty-eight hours so far. The mods have yet to respond to my e-mails or the 5-10 "Wish you were here" e-cards I sent them. ;-)

Wow!!!! That is REALLY deep! I have never heard of a well for a single family home going that deep! Glad to hear that when he comes back he won't smell so bad!

Seven hundred feet is really deep. In my area 400 feet is about as far as they go (all granite and other hard rock here). Glad its not my wallet footing that bill-I feel for ya, Viper.

Glad to hear the water is on. I hope this never happens at my mom?s place, even though it will. They have a deep well too, but I don?t think it?s even half as deep as yours.

700 feet into the ground is amazing. I?m looking out my window at the tallest building in Minnesota for perspective; it?s 775 feet tall. That?s huge, and I?m several blocks away.
