This is good news. Now, I think that Israel should take up the Saudi Peace Plan. Jeruselum should be administered by a neutral party or the U.N.

It's a shame he didn't do this years ago. It's possible that a lot of innocent people on both sides would still be alive.

This is from WorldNetDaily , can anyone confirm whether it was true or not?

I don't know if this will stop any new Suicide bombers, but Arafat seems to be doing the right thing. Hopefully Israel will stop it's occupation and they can go back to the negotiating tables.

Yeah, might have been true last year, but he was talking to his own people. Sharon repeatedly calls for the destruction of the Palestinians when he talks to his own people too.

You are probably right Red. The Palestinians are so fragmented and have been used as pawns by the other Arab countries for so long that one comment by Arafat will not change the situation.

This is a good start. What do you guys think about Annan's proposal to bring in international troops to that area?

Do you guys realize that if he is really against it hes signing his death warrant that will be fullfilled by "his" people. I have mixed emontions if he dies because he did unite some of the palestinies into talking (although a poor attempt) and if he dies worse people can take his place. But he did support terrorism.

This is probably the first Brave thing Arafat has ever done in his life that could have positive Consequences. He also more than likely just signed his own Death Warrant. Now if we could just get the rest of the Palestinians to realize that this is the first step for them towards giving their children a worthwhile future.

Why do you support it?

Do you think that if the Israelis have not been able to stop the suicide/homocide bombers that some U.N. force will be able to? The U.N. force would be able to stop any Israeli reprisial. The terrorist bombers would have a field day knowing that there would be no retaliation.

If you can show where that would not happen I would consider international troops as helpful.

As do I. Now all we need to do is make up a Division of Soldiers from the most oppressed countries in the world so they'll be used to getting bombed and shot at from both sides. Even better, you could send the French. This way both the Palestinians and the Israeli's would have a common enemy (a long with rest of the world) I'm sure they could dig up some atrocities commited by the French during their occupation of Egypt (and Palestine?) during Napolean's riegn. Nothing like shared hate for another to bring together people who have been at odds for decades.

It is rhetoric, nothing more and nothing less. Arafat would suck a camels d!ck in the middle of Times Square if he thought it would give him a chance to lie to Powell in person about how he wants a settlement and no more bombings. 30 seconds after that statement he was on the phone to the leader of the Hamas or whoever telling them to "send in another". And for those of you who are calling for U S troops to go into the area, I have two comments for you 1. Don't be too quick to encourage someone to do something you are not willing to do yourself and 2. Don't be surprised when whatever peacekeeping force ends up there starts responding like the IDF does to the terrorist c0cksuckers that permeate the region. Don't be surprised at all.

Dave - But you have to admit it's better than not saying anything at all. I understand your doubts but I think it's best to wait and see and hope that the suicide bombings do stop. If they don't, then by all means come in with your "I told you so"s.

It is a nice step, but there will be more homicide bombers within the next few days.

There is no way in hell I support US(read UN) troups in that area.

I always remain hopeful because my fear is that this will evetually cause WWIII. However being one of the few on this board who is old enough to have seen much of what Arafat has done in his life in "real" time, I am somewhat leery of anything that camel porker has to say. I can very clearly remember the '72 Olympics and his name being tied to them. He has done nothing since to make me trust him anymore.

I would like to believe that, but in the end, I believe it's just a waste of breathe.

Dont get excited.

Since it was NOT released on Palestinian Radio or Television (what a shocker) none of his own people heard it.

And no action has been taken by him. Condemning is only half the battle now lets see him take steps to back up his so called "words"

I think that a statement made by a man at gunpoint is worth the liquid running down his leg.

If Arafat was serious in this claim he would have made it years ago. About a week ago Isreal's army was knocking on Arafat's door with tanks so his sudden change of heart doesn't surprise me.

<< "This is probably the first Brave thing Arafat has ever done in his life" >>

As much as capitalizing the word "brave" looks good, it doesn't mean a whole lot considering. This situation strikes me a lot of Hitler's last days in his bunker where, hypothetically, if instead of killing himself he started supporting Zionism.
