The future PIII (codename : Tualatin ) WILL NOT BE COMPATIBLE WITH EXISTING MOTHERBOARDS.
If you want to upgrade PIII above 1Ghz, YOU MUST BUY A NEW MOTHERBOARD.
Why? You ask...
Reasons...
(1) The newer chips uses the newer FC-PGA 2 format
(2) It requires a lower core voltage...1.3 Volts
(3) Hence, Intel is releasing the B-stepping series of their chipsets. eg : i815 becomes i815-B.
But you can use older PIII chips in the newer boards.
To summarise, You cannot use the new chip in a current board. But you can use an old chip in the new board. >>
