Newly purchased LCD concern

So I just purchased a vw246h (link on bottom). The 16:9 aspect ratio is fantastic and the monitor looks really crisp and clear. However I have one concern over the lcd. Just like the topic summary says its making a very odd HUUUUUMMMING noise that won't go away. For the first 24 hours it wasn't doing it at all. But this morning the humming noise started up and hasn't gone away since. The noise is pretty loud to. Does anyone know for sure if this is a sign of a defect with the vw246h or is the humming noise common among this model? It is very HOT right now in my room as I have no AC whatsoever.. only a standard fan. And the back of the lcd is quite hot right now. Just thought i'd put that in. thx for any help.

Was the monitor left on for the 24 hour period and then it started making the sound? Or was it in sleep/standby mode for a while overnight and then you noticed it first thing the next day?

It sounds like either a bad bulb or perhaps you have dirty electricity that isn't 'clean'. 😛 Is the monitor connected to a battery backup/UPS?

Most LCD monitors directly rectify the mains with no PFC, 'dirty' power doesn't really affect this power supply scheme, nor would a square-wave/non-sine from a UPS.

LCD monitors basically contain 3 electronic subsystems: mains smps, inverter and display electronics. You could have a dying inverter (unlikely), due to something failing in the inverter itself or a bad bulb. The smps has all of the heatsinked components (fets/diodes) so if it's producing a lot of heat it is more likely the smps. The inverter typically consists of 2-4 transformers and some non-heatsinked fets (small components aside), so it won't be able to release a great deal of heat before failing imo.

I can tell you it should not hum,I have an Asus VW246H monitor and its very quiet no hum at all, so RMA it for a replacement.

As to to heat well I'm in UK and mine does not get hot even with 30c plus temps with no AC so I still feel its a faulty monitor you have.
