Newly installed Chaintech 4200 on a Intel 2.5ghz machine and horrible performance!

Look in Nvidia display properties panel and see if you`ve FSAA on,if so turn it off.

I don't know if this matters, but did you uninstall of the old ATI drivers and remove the card from the device manager before installing the new gf4 card?

That may not be too bad at all. I'm on an Athlon XP 1900 with a Ti4200 doing 300/365 and I get around 6000 3dmarks. Of course, I run 3dmark using some decent quality settings. I have anisotropic to level 4, Mipmap LOD to -1.0 (I think those are the settings) and I have User Mipmaps disabled(this lets the application set the mipmap level; it usually chooses low quality settings to enhance performance.)
That said, if I change the settings to lowest quality, I exceed 10,000.
