Newly built system keeps reseting itself! WHY?

I just built a new system and put in a hdd from the old slower one. It boots up alright, but when i get to the win95 opening screen, the system resets. What's going on here? I've built several systems and never had this happen.

Iwill kk266
Athlon 1.2 Ghz
512 mb
floppies, tapedrive, cdrom
Radeon 32ddr LE

Hopelessly confused.......

I had a similar problem like this..but it had to do with my network card. Have a network card in there? If so take it out and try. I never figured out why the network card was the problem but after I replaced it the system worked fine.

what kind of memory are you using and what power supply.. have you check the temp of the cpu and mobo ? also thermal grease on the cpu ?.. did you fresh install win95 ? shouldn't you use win98se at least with the via drivers ?

I am using curcial memory, 2x256. bought the retail box cpu with the heatsink, put it on as it was. Have not looked at the temps yet though. No extra cards in yet. Not a fresh win 95 install. Using win 95 because it is what is on the hdd. This was a "brain transplant". It usually works.

I may just have to tell the guy i am building this rig for that I have to start fresh on the OS install.

Yeah you gotta do a fresh install. Changing motherboards can cause problems. But that might not be causing the random reboots.

Random reboots often result from :

1) old BIOS
2) overheating
3) bad RAM
4) old windows install going on new mobo
5) NIC / IRQ confilct(s)
