Hello,
I just finished the system yesterday and I can't seem to get connected on to the internet. I am using the onboard LAN and have all the drivers loaded that came with the motherboard. When I check my internet connection status, I'm showing that I have packets sent but none received. Everytime I try to manually connect (right click on my internet connection icon, press connect), I keep on getting the error message "Error 678 the remote computer did not respond".

Thanks!

The packets sent indication means nothing except that they departed your computer. Try removing that connectionand then reboot. Then use the connection wizard to create a new one.

What kind of mobo is it? Have you tried running repair through the Control Panel/Network Connections?

as suggested...reboot or try ipconfig /renew from the command prompt.

sounds like you're not getting a valid IP address.

Thanks for your help guys, but that did not work. I can get on the internet if I install an ethernet card. However, I want to avoid leaving the ethernet card in the computer, if the motherboard already has intergrated ethernet built in.

It's funny, when I check device manager, it states the device is working properly and the drivers are dated from 2004. I'm stumped. Do you think I have to install SP2?

Anybody actually thought that it may be the router?????

Can you see the router...i.e can you use the web browser to log onto it to change settings....you should have to type an IP address to access it so that you can change its config!!!

Which router is it.....Does the router say that it is connected to the net....Try resetting the router while your computer is on

Do you get the "disconnected from internet" message then the "internet connection connected" when you reset(the router)?? i.e does your computer realise that your router is connected...

Are you using the right kind of cable....i.e Cross-over or pass through?

Have you got your computer set to provide DHCP..

Is your Router providing IP's via DHCP??

Disconnect your computer from your router and plug it straight into your modem and restart...see if you get a connection that way...(or do you have a DSL router/modem combo?) don't do this for too long as you will be open to attack...

Do you have a firewall installed....

Is it allowing connections to your router...is it blocking your router from talking to your computer?

I hope some of this helps!
