Hi guys - I've just put together an AMD Athlon AXIA "Y" (supposedly unlocked) 1 Ghz on an Epox KT8A (non-RAID) mobo running Windows ME.

Problem 1)when I shut down Windows the screen goes blank but the PC and fans etc keep working. I have to hold in the pwr button on the case to turn the machine off.

Problem 2)when I turn the PC on it doesn't always POST/boot up first time. Sometimes I have to press the reset switch a couple of times.

(I think prob 1 and 2 might be linked)

Problem 3) My chip will do 10 x 133 FSB (1.33 Ghz) no sweat. However I have a USB Alcatel ADSL modem. If I'm running with a 133 FSB I will be able to connect to the net but after about 5 mins I get disconnected. I think I lose USB power to the modem as both lights go out.

I had a P3 866 before running on a 133 FSB and had no problems with the modem so I know it can work at that speed. Any ideas?

Problem 4) Whilst I have a supposedly factory "unlocked" CPU even though I change the multiplier in BIOS it still boots up at the default x10... How can I tell if the chip is factory unlocked?

anybody have any ideas or solutions? I'd greatly appreciate your help guys.

Thanks in advance!

hmm... What kind of power supply are you using? It sounds like a power problem.

1+2) are most likely BIOS settings, you want "Instant OFF" rather than waiting 4 seconds. and I think the POST option should be there too... check the manual.

3) could be a power supply issue. I believe a Athlon 1.33 uses more power than a P3 866

4) Someone else knows for sure, I believe you can just look at the L1 bridges and (connected=unlocked) that should tell you

This is just my 2 cents.. correct me if I am wrong

I thought that only the 1.2's were factory unlocked, have you looked at the L1 bridge to make sure?

It also sounds like your processor is not unlocked. Double check the L1 bridges and see if they are connected. if they are not then connect them with a lead pencil. I would try to set the multiplier to the default and try and get the errors to re-occur. If they do not then you fixed it, if the do happen again, it's prob. the power supply.

Thanks guys - power is from a 300w unit in a Yeong Yang server case

Forgot to say that previous PC was a P3 650, peltier cooled and OC'd to 866 (and beyond on somedays). Rest of hardware remains the same: GF2, Soundy Live!, Pioneer DVD, Plextor CR-RW, IBM 46.1 Gb drive. No power probs with that and I still have the supply (also 300w rated) so may swap it over.

Can't recall if the L1 bridges are connected or not. Will check. Thanks.
