Hi guys - I've just put together an AMD Athlon AXIA "Y" (supposedly unlocked) 1 Ghz on an Epox KT8A (non-RAID) mobo running Windows ME.

Problem 1)when I shut down Windows the screen goes blank but the PC and fans etc keep working. I have to hold in the pwr button on the case to turn the machine off.

Problem 2)when I turn the PC on it doesn't always POST/boot up first time. Sometimes I have to press the reset switch a couple of times.

(I think prob 1 and 2 might be linked)

Problem 3) My chip will do 10 x 133 FSB (1.33 Ghz) no sweat. However I have a USB Alcatel ADSL modem. If I'm running with a 133 FSB I will be able to connect to the net but after about 5 mins I get disconnected. I think I lose USB power to the modem as both lights go out.

I had a P3 866 before running on a 133 FSB and had no problems with the modem so I know it can work at that speed. Any ideas?

Problem 4) Whilst I have a supposedly factory "unlocked" CPU even though I change the multiplier in BIOS it still boots up at the default x10... How can I tell if the chip is factory unlocked?

anybody have any ideas or solutions? I'd greatly appreciate your help guys.

Thanks in advance!

What kind of power supply are you using? That could very well be the problem. You can tell if it is unlocked by looking at the chip and seeing if the L1 bridges are connected.

plus that is a via chipset i believe and there are a lot of usb issues especially with windows me. my guess is it has nothing really to do with the speed of your fsb and will actuallly happen at any setting eventually.
